WORK SCHEDULE

Monday through Friday

JOB SUMMARY

The senior accountants responsibilities include preparing financial reports budget maintenance and reporting perform complex account reconciliations general ledger accounting fixed asset maintenance assistance with yearend close assisting with audit preparations and performing other accounting duties as assigned. The Senior Accountant is also responsible for budget oversight providing ad hoc reports to campus as requested upholding internal controls general day to day operational accounting and reporting to serve the University. This position reports to the Controller.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions: Ensure all functions and services are provided either directly or through collaboration with staff

  • Works closely with the Controller Accounting Accounts Payable Budget Owners Departmental liaisons
  • Monthly quarterly and annual close responsibilities
  • Fixed Asset Accounting
  • Responsible for maintaining accounting functions including complex financial analysis
  • Prepare accurate financial reports
  • Manage the general ledger as assigned
  • Manage budget processes and reporting as assigned
  • Perform account reconciliations
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards
  • Mentor and collaborate with business and finance staff
  • Provides customer service by responding to internal and external personnel in a timely and professional manner.
  • Collaborate with Accounting team to ensure accurate and efficient work with internal and external auditors.
  • Use professional judgment in the day to day management of staff and assigned duties of the area being managed
  • Organize and upkeep records
  • Compare all documentation with corresponding entries/charges
  • Various Other duties as required.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Southern Nazarene University is an expression of the Church of the Nazarene.   • An understanding of the importance for diversity inclusion and equity.
  • Bachelors degree in business finance accounting or a related field
  • Five years of progressive accounting experience
  • Thorough knowledge of FASB pronouncements accounting principles and practices
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service focus
  • Strong organization skills
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office especially Excel
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required both verbal and written.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple demands in fastpaced work environment.
  • Typing and spelling competency.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all university business especially as relates to records personal information and finances.
  • Ability to maintain excellent attendance and regular work hours is critical to successful performance in this position.
  • Experience with various computer software applications.
  • Data entry experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA or working on eligibility
  • Masters degree in business finance accounting or a related field
  • NotforProfit accounting experience
  • Experience in higher education.

Supervision Received:

Receives supervision and work assignments from a designated supervisor although other staff members in the unit may provide work direction.

Supervision Exercised:

May be responsible for the coordination of work assignments for staff and student employees.
