Job Summary:

TheSheet Music and Music Education Resource Manager is responsible for administration oversight maintenance and development of the Library of Ensemble Music (LEM) Kinyon Resource Room (KRR) and Junior Student Teaching (JST) Checkout room within the Center for Music. The LEM houses a sheet music collection of over 16000 titles of various instrumentation and voicing. The Music Education Suite houses the KRR with over 3500 music education teaching resources and the JST Checkout Room containing more than 275 general music education instruments and materials.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Manage the daytoday operations of the LEM KRR and JST Checkout Room with regards to faculty staff and student needs;Hire train supervise student staff; provide work direction and problemsolving assistance; create and update handbooks for each area.
  2. Manage the sheet music needs for all Center for Music instrumental and vocal ensembles and Center for Theatre and Dance musicals and operas; procure distribute and secure sheet music performance rights (when necessary) for the School of Music Theatre and Dance; update all collections as needed including culling the collections. Work directly with all ensemble conductors to determine academic year repertoire lists; research availability of music from the LEM sheet music collection or determine the best option to acquire music including purchasing renting or borrowing music as needed; continually research latest and best practices for purchasing and distributing sheet music.
  3. Work directly with faculty to determine class materials needed from the Music Education Suite; obtain junior and senior student teaching rosters; prepare the Music Education Suite for homeschool and Montessori lessons; create awareness among Music Education students of the resources available in the Music Education Suite.
  4. Purchase rent or borrow ensemble music in accordance with the each conductors repertoire and performance needs; Purchase music education resources in accordance with Music Education faculty; work directly with the Music Education Chair to acquire and replace resources in the Music Education Suite utilizing the appropriate budget; Receive review and process all invoices for all areas.
  5. Initiate rental music contracts with rental agents; review and obtain proper signatures on music rental agreements; collect and return all rental music by the date given in condition received; review and sign off on all livestreaming agreements for rental music; communicate details in livestreaming agreements to the Web Cast Coordinator.
  6. Design processes for the quickest and best means to assemble and distribute ensemble music immediately following the audition process; coordinate and oversee the compilation and distribution and collection of ensemble music and folders based on ensemble personnel; monitor returns of ensemble music; create procedures for late notices and replacement fee assessment.
  7. Design and maintain webbased databases for the LEM and Music Education collections and a web site supporting the databases for faculty staff and students to search for works and materials within the collections.
  8. Maintain accurate database records of the LEM and Music Education collections condition and plan necessary replacements; for college insurance purposes and as requested prepare an annual report of all LEM and music education sheet music holdings.
  9. Create and update procedures for loaning of sheet music from the LEM and resource areas in the Music Education Suite to faculty staff and students; develop and maintain a working relationship with outside contractors for summer programs and other special events including alumni and nonalum conductors responsible for on and offcampus programs; evaluate and process requests; monitor returns of loaned or rented music and resources to ensure all are returned at designated time; create procedures for late notices and replacement fee assessment.
  10. Establish and maintain relationships with area ensemble library managers and music departments to create reciprocal borrowing arrangements; Establish and maintain cooperative working relationship with faculty staff and students vendors and others associated within MTD regarding sheet music and music education resources.
  11. A member of the Center for Music Production Staff Team and the Center for MusicConductors and Directors Planning committee; actively participate andcontribute as a member within the School; maintain membership in professional music librarian associations; participate in associated activities in consultation with the Associate Dean.
  12. Acquire knowledge of and remain up to date on Copyright laws to include music in public domain to serve as the Center for Music liaison with regards to sheet music Copyright; act as the Center for Music authority for the Colleges ASCAP BMI and SESAC licenses in regard to musical concerts performing off sheet music; participate in associated activities and training in consultation with the Associate Dean.
  13. Develop and demonstrate a multicultural awareness and contribute to cultivating an inclusive diverse and respectful College community; demonstrate civil and inclusive behavior when interacting with faculty staff and students and visitors to the college; promote a flexible collaborative and inclusive work environment and engage in educational opportunities to increase awareness and understanding of diversity and inclusion.
  14. Maintain proper repair of sheet music; direct and supervise preventive maintenance using expert preservation techniques; Identify and arrange for the replacement of any irreparably damaged or missing parts in any one collection; supervise repairs to ensemble music folders as necessary.
  15. Using the College and School of Music Theatre and Dance budgeting process prepare and propose an annual budget for the LEM including funds for each ensemble performance area music replacement operating and student staff; Manage all related budget lines and ascertain that budgets are spent appropriately and within allocations; maintain and reconcile operating and/or capital budgets to ensure purchases are within the available budget; as needed consult and coordinate with the individuals responsible for the overall School budget.
  16. Develop presentations for Center for Music workshops and classes on Copyright laws licensing and ensemble librarianship among other relevant topics as requested.
  17. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Associates degree and a minimum of 2 years related experience; ability to plan and execute job responsibilities with limited or no supervision; ability to handle multiple tasks establish priorities and meet deadlines; attention to detail excellent organizational skills; strong supervisory interpersonal written and verbal communication skills required; the ability to effectively work and interact respectfully within a diverse and inclusive environment; proficient with database management and budget spreadsheets; experience in an academic setting preferred; back ground in music preferred; indepth knowledge of major instrumental organizations instrumentation desired; knowledge of elementary instruments and materials desired; knowledge of sheet music vendors and rental agents desired.

This position is 37.5 hours per week 52 weeks per year.

Hiring Range:

$25 to $28 per hour commensurate with qualifications and experience.
