Summary of Job Duties:

The Department of Sociology and Criminology in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas invites applications for a nontenuretrack Teaching Assistant Professor position beginning in August 2025. This is a standard ninemonth faculty appointment. We will hire two positions from this search. This is a fulltime position eligible for annual renewal and possibly consideration for a multiyear meritbased appointment contingent on experience funding and departmental need. At minimum the person hired must 1 hold a Ph.D. in Sociology Criminology or a related social science discipline and 2 must have college teachingrelated experience at the undergraduate level. We prefer candidates who have experience teaching online and inperson and familiarity with course management software (such as Blackboard). Preferred applicants will also be able to contribute to the core curriculum in both sociology and criminology. A record of being an active involved and collegial member of a collaborative faculty team both on campus and in relevant national service organizations is also highly valued.

The standard workload allocation for this position 80 teaching 10 service 10 research) typically includes a teaching load of four courses per semester.

Regular reliable and nondisruptive attendance is an essential job duty as is the ability to create and maintain collegial harmonious working relationships with others.

About the Department
The Department is a dynamic productive collegial and student successoriented unit in Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences. The Department offers undergraduate degrees in Sociology and Criminology and an M.A. in Sociology and affiliation with three research units: the Center for Social Research Community and Family Institute and the Terrorism Research Center. The Department participates in African and African American Studies Asian Studies Latin American & Latino Studies and other interdisciplinary area studies programs. Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

With submitted materials the candidate must demonstrate

  • Ph.D. degree in sociology criminology or related social science discipline conferred by the start of employment

  • College teachingrelated experience at the undergraduate level
