JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Communications Information and Navigation Office (CINO) at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State (University Park) are seeking undergraduate students to support our mission to discover demonstrate transition and educate. The students will support the of research development and prototyping of systems for a wide range of customers in the Department of Defense (DoD) and industry. Technology areas include general mechanical engineering electrical engineering industrial engineering computer programming system modeling supply chain analytics machine fabrication and machine learning/artificial intelligence.
Undergraduate students from the following majors are highly encouraged to apply:
- Computer Science (Cyber Security Software Development)
- Information Sciences and Technology
- Data Science (Data Mining Data Analysis Machine Learning)
- Engineering (Aerospace Applied Chemical Civil/Environmental Computer Electrical Energy General Materials Mechanical Nautical/Naval Software Systems)
- Mathematics (Actuarial Science Risk Analysis Statistics)
- Physics
- Geospatial Data Science
Students selected will serve as active handson contributing members of the research staff at ARL.
- Contribute to the design development implementation and analysis of technical engineering products systems and subsystems using accepted methods and techniques
- Assist in concept development and participate in the design analyses of engineering systems independently evaluating selecting and applying scientific or engineering procedures and techniques to assignments
- Investigate and evaluate practical applicability of scientific theories and engineering principles basic to the development and improvement of various engineering systems
- Learn and apply standard practices and techniques in specific situations correlate data recognize discrepancies in results and follow operations through a series of related detailed steps or processes
The successful candidate will work up to 20 hours/week during the fall and spring semesters and 40 hours/week over the summer.
This is a paid internship located fully onsite located in State College PA. This position may require occasional business travel with a team of researchers engineers and technologists to test systems in the field; relocation and housing are not provided.
