Our client is a dynamic mining company with operations in the US and a head office in Vancouver is seeking to add a new Assistant Controller to their team.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting:
- Prepare and consolidate financial statements including income statements balance sheets and cash flow statements.
- Ensure compliance with US GAAP standards.
- Manage monthend and yearend closing procedures.
Accounting Operations:
- Oversee daily accounting activities including accounts payable and general ledger management.
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of financial transactions.
- Maintain and reconcile financial records.
- Coordinate and manage statutory tax filings promptly.
Staff Supervision and Development:
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff providing guidance and support.
- Conduct performance evaluations and facilitate training programs.
Compliance and Risk Management:
- Ensure compliance with relevant accounting regulations and internal controls particularly SOX.
- Identify and mitigate financial risks.
- Stay updated on regulatory changes and their impact on financial reporting.
- Coordinate and assist with external audits.
Financial Analysis:
- Perform monthly variance analysis.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with departments and offices in Canada USA and South America.
- Communicate financial information to management and other stakeholders.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
Professional Certifications:
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or equivalent.
Experience:
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in financial reporting for publicly listed companies with at least 2 years in a supervisory role preferably in the mining or resource industry.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (e.g. QuickBooks NetSuite).
- Strong understanding of US GAAP and SOX compliance requirements.
- Excellent analytical and problemsolving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
