Role:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for ensuring the integrity accuracy and efficiency of financial operations within the credit union. This role involves managing daily accounting activities overseeing financial reporting ensuring regulatory compliance and identifying opportunities for process improvement. The Senior Accountant plays a key role in financial statement preparation reconciliations regulatory reporting and monthend closing procedures while also providing support for audits and budget planning.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Post daily journal entries post to and balance general or subsidiary ledgers and reconcile bank transaction accounts. Verifies accuracy completeness and consistency of accounting information received. Reconciles and reports discrepancies found.
Performs supporting administrative tasks within the accounting department including posting accounting entries and assisting others within the department as needed.
Produces monthly reports to include but not limited to Charge Off Report PPL Pricing Report Share Impact Report ALCO Loan Report and Statistical Report.
Balances shares loans and suspense daily. Research and correct any discrepancies.
Maintains files including general ledger (GL) journal and other miscellaneous filings.
Monthly Prepaid and Fixed Asset processing and balancing.
Accounts Payable related functions
Responsible for compliance of all Federal and State rules and regulations pertaining but not limited to Bank Secrecy Act AntiMoney Laundering Bank Bribery Act OFAC NCUA Privacy Regulations Reg DD Reg D Reg E Reg CC Reg Z Reg B Service Members Civil Relief FCRA/FACTA and Right to Financial Privacy Act.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Performance Measurements:
Keep all assigned general ledger (GL) accounts current and in balance daily according to established department standards.
Prepare all reports within the prescribed time frame with no unresolved errors.
Report unresolved discrepancies in a timely manner.
Ensure filing is accurately completed within the expected timeframe.
Troubleshoot and resolve internal inquiries in a timely and accurate manner.
Provide helpful and informative service and support to all members and associates.
To maintain a good working relationship with other credit union employees and to provide friendly professional and prompt service and support to members and all other credit union employees.
Must be detailed oriented.
To maintain a dependable record of attendance and timeliness.
Is responsible for compliance with all required regulations and policies especially with all Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) policies procedures and regulations.
Knowledge and Skills:
Experience: Three or more years of similar or related experience. Credit Union accounting experience and experience with Symitar preferred but not required. Experience with Microsoft Excel required.
Education: 1 A bachelors degree or 2 achievement of formal certifications recognized in the industry as equivalent to a bachelors degree (e.g. information technology certifications in lieu of a degree) or 3 Completion of a specialized and extensive inhouse training or apprenticeship program.
Interpersonal Skills: Work involves contact with people beyond immediate associates regarding routine matters for the purpose of giving or obtaining information which may require some discussion. Outside contacts take the form of service to the public (members or vendors) requiring ordinary courtesy in providing assistance and information.
Other Skills: Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Excel managing files and records. Proficient in general ledger reconciliation. Experience with automated data processing systems including PC software programs.
