The WiFis Intern position resides in the Wireless Access Technology department at CableLabs. This department is dedicated to advancing seamless wireless connectivity ensuring highquality reliable experiences across diverse networks such as WiFi and cellular. We focus on cuttingedge innovation projects aimed at improving wireless technologies and enabling interoperability. Our team actively contributes to global standards development organizations (SDOs) including 3GPP IEEE 802.11 WiFi Alliance (WFA) and Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA) shaping the future of wireless communication through collaboration and leadership in industry standards.

Why This Internship Is Exciting

The WiFi intern will obtain familiarity with WiFi and how various tools can help monitor the health of the WiFi network. You gain knowledge in wireless testing methodologies in noncontrolled (field test) and controlled (anechoic) environments and of common WiFi KPIs. This internship addresses both theoretical and practical aspects of WiFi performance.

What Youll Do

  • Develop and document test scenarios
  • Set up the test equipment in noncontrolled (field test) environments or in anechoic chambers
  • Conduct the tests and collect key wireless performance metrics/indexes (KPIs)
  • Analyze and interpret the test results
  • Evaluate how tools (Apps) like speed tests can help monitor the WiFi network
  • Document the test results and outcomes of the analysis

Qualifications

What Is a Must Have

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelors 4th year) or a Masters in Electrical Engineering or similar degree at an accredited university
  • Good understanding of WiFi RF and MAC layers and related KPIs
  • Experience setting up nontrivial wireless networks and running tests using spectrum analyzer and other network performance analysis tools (Iperf Ixcharriot)
  • Knowledge of basic wireless propagation characteristics
  • Excellent written oral and communication/presentation skills

What Will Set You Apart

  • Experience with anechoic chamber testing
  • Experience working with network capture tools such as wireless sniffers and Wireshark
  • Ability to write scripts and code (i.e. Python C)
  • Understanding of IP networking and experience with TCP and UDP analysis
