At Heart of America Eye Care we have an amazing job opportunity for an Ophthalmic Medical Scribe. The primary goal is to increase the efficiency and productivity of the physician in the clinic setting. As a scribe you must be able to anticipate physician needs communicate clearly to patients and staff members and effectively multitask in order to facilitate clinic flow. Candidate should have previous Medical Scribe experience preferably in the Ophthalmology field.


This is a Monday Friday dayshift position. No Weekends and No Holidays!

Some duties our Medical Scribe will be responsible:

  • Consistently performs proper documentation of case history confrontation visual fields pupil evaluation screening extraocular muscle function visual acuity assessment of angle depth instillation of diagnostic pharmaceutical agents amsler grid and other functions as directed by the clinical physician
  • Accurately and thoroughly document ophthalmic exams and procedures as they are being performed by the physician.
  • List all appropriate diagnoses and symptoms as well as followup instructions and prescriptions as directed by the physician
  • Provide patients and/or family members with instructions for selfcare and followup as directed by the physician
  • Coordinate patient scheduling and monitor patient flow throughout the office properly communicating delays
  • Obtains eyeglass prescriptions via lensometer
  • Performs patient testing accurately and effectively as directed by the clinical provider(s) i.e. Slit Lamp Exam PAMS Visual Fields Color Test Tonometry OCTs Fundus Photos etc.
  • If assigned to a retina specialist assists retina physician(s) with intraocular injections as needed
  • Effectively communicates physician instructions to patients and documents accordingly
  • Assists the physician with pharmacy calls patient calls etc.
  • Ensures the scheduling template is being followed correctly
  • Ensures all patient lanes are clean and wellstocked at the end of each day
  • Ensures all equipment is turned off and covered properly at the end of the day
  • Completes tech station duties daily
  • Call in Rxs Only certified ophthalmic techs can ERx. The exception is the tech can ERx if scribing for a doctor and the script is done under the doctors name
  • Always exhibits a professional demeanor with a positive enthusiastic attitude when representing the practice
  • Maintains certification where applicable and continues to improve skills. Must attend inservice and webinar training seminars as directed by the Clinical Manager



Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Bachelors degree or Associate Degree in a related field highly preferred
  • Two years of ophthalmology scribe or technician experience preferred
  • Must complete the home study ophthalmic program within six months of employment
  • JCAHPO COA Certification required within 18 months of employment
  • Prefer COT Certification

  • Must be able to handle multiple projects at one time accurately and efficiently
  • Must have exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Must possess a caring patient and friendly attitude
  • Must have complete knowledge of all forms (paper & electronic) that are used in the practice
  • Must understand the anatomy & physiology of the eye
  • Strong hospitality and communication skills
