Job Description

REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERENCES

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Accountant Senior.



General Description

This position requires the jobholder to be well versed in detailed general ledger functions account reconciliations and financial analysis and reporting. The jobholder must have extensive knowledge of Microsoft Applications including Word and Excel as well as familiarity with ERP accounting systems. Job duties may require the exercise of independent judgment performed under the general supervision of a higherlevel supervisory accountant. Preferences include PeopleSoft experience governmental accounting enterprise fund/businesstype accounting and financial reporting experience knowledge of Governmental Accounting Standard Board (GASB) pronouncements experience with preparing sales tax fuel tax report and accruals within a midlevel accountant position within a local government.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Requires a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in accounting or finance or a Bachelors degreeand coursework that qualifies for the CPA Examination.

It requires two 2 years of professional level accounting finance or closely related experience including six 6 months of lead/supervisory experience depending on the area of assignment.

Special Certifications and Licenses

Ability to secure and maintain a valid Florida Drivers License at the time of appointment and for the duration of employment.
Ability to secure and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) within 60 days of employment and for the duration of employment (if required).
Ability to secure and maintain a valid Seaport Business Purpose Credential for the duration of employment.

Preferences
Masters degree in Accounting or Finance
Active Florida Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
Active Certified Government Finance Officer (CGFO)
Active Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO)
1 years experience using PeopleSoft
1 years experience preparing Comprehensive Annual Financial Reports
Professional experience of 1 years in Capital Asset accounting
Professional experience of 1 years in Grant accounting
Professional experience of 1 years in Governmental and/or Enterprise Fund Accounting

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

Advanced professional accounting work in the maintenance and review of fiscal records; may supervise staff.

Works independently under limited supervision reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

Process/record financial transactions including preparing/reviewing/approving various accounting documents such as journal entries vendor invoice payment vouchers and cash receipts.

Responsible for the timely and accurate reporting of the updating of the Finance Division standard operating procedures and annual physical inventory of tangible equipment asset updating the Finance Division standard operating procedures manuals.

Prepare and review monthly GL account reconciliations and quarterly variance analyses of financial statements.

Assist in the preparation of the Ports annual financial report including note disclosures and required supplementary information.

Review sales tax and surtax calculations fuel reports water tax returns debt service funding requests and bond proceeds reimbursements.

Approve payment vouchers and research accounts payablerelated issues.

Review the account coding for requisitions of vendor invoice payments for accuracy.

Review reconcile and monitor revenues and expenses and compare them with budgeted amounts.

Prepare and record monthly operating and capital accruals.

Performs related work as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Performs light work that involves sitting most of the time and involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or skill adeptness and speed in the use of fingers hands or limbs on repetitive operation of electronic office equipment within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.
