Metra is one of the largest and most complex commuter rail systems in North America serving Cook DuPage Will Lake Kane and McHenry Counties. The agency is linking communities in Northeastern Illinois by providing safe reliable and efficient commuter service.
The final salary will depend on the candidates qualifications. Those with 8 years or more of required experience can expect offers up to the midpoint of the salary range. Metra provides full pay ranges so candidates can consider their growth potential.

As a Signal Engineer 4 you will:
- Design and Innovate: Develop intricate technical drawings calculations and cost estimates for largescale signal and crossing systems adhering to codes and regulations.
- Problem Solve: Investigate and resolve malfunctions in signal systems identifying root causes and implementing solutions to enhance performance.
- Lead and Guide: Act as a subject matter expert supporting field personnel and engineers with intricate circuit designs and troubleshooting.
- Evaluate and Approve: Research and evaluate materials ensuring they meet Metras quality standards and review consultant designs budgets and specifications for compliance and efficiency.
- Collaborate and Deliver: Prepare scopes of services and detailed specifications for contracts negotiate changes and ensure projects align with Metras goals.
- Education: Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering Electronics Technology or a related discipline.
- Experience: At least six years of signal design or related experience.
- Knowledge & Skills:
- Comprehensive knowledge of electrical engineering design construction principles and techniques.
- Familiarity with electrical engineering materials components and applicable laws regulations and codes.
- Advanced skills in CAD and other engineering applications.
- Strong analytical problemsolving and criticalthinking abilities.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to lead projects manage consultants and negotiate solutions.
- Licenses: Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license
Preferred:
- Programming experience in languages such as C C# or Visual Basic with knowledge of digital logic Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) or microcontrollers. Experience with MicroStation.
