Job Description

Performs operational and technical activities to obtain high quality MEG scans from research patients. Performs MEG scans using a noninvasive and totally silent brain imaging technique that uses very sensitive magnetic sensors placed within a helmet to measure human brain function.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Performs quality MEG research scans that are consistent with project specific research protocols. This includes communicating in a friendly and clear manner while explaining instructions for MEG tasks.

  • Asks safety screening questions prior to all exams. Collects information about possible safety concerns from patients and evaluates or passes along to supervisor for guidance.

  • Documents all procedures and saves/uploads all MEG data files per relevant research protocols.

  • Coordinates scheduling and preparation of instrumentation in the Research MEG facility.

  • Engages in extensive on the job training upon hire to gain proficiency in operating MEG research equipment in the context of human brain science. Maintains skills through refresher training and workshops provided by the organization.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients in a courteous and friendly manner at all times.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Must be detail oriented highly organized and willing to learn.

  • Ability to work independently anticipate and solve problems.

  • Ability to work cooperatively with individuals at all levels.

  • Ability to deal with difficult or challenging patient interactions and escalate to management as appropriate.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school degree required.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification obtained upon transfer or hire required.

  • Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative(CITI) certification within 30 days of transfer or hire required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree preferred.

  • Certified Medical Assistant preferred.

  • Other Duties: This job description incorporates the essential functions and duties required for this position. However other duties may be required and assigned at times and as determined by a supervisor in order to meet the needs of the organization.

  • Serves as a role model in carrying out activities and behaviors that reflect the values and principles of the Boys Town mission.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS EQUIPMENT USAGE WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Sedentary to medium work frequently having to exert up to 20 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Must be able to see well enough to read labels monitors reports and computer screens. Must be able to hear and speak well to communicate instructions by spoken conversation. Must be able to do repetitive bending/reaching and standing for extended periods.The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions such as in typical office or administrative work. Occasionally subject to hazards such as moving mechanical parts or electrical current.
