Job Description Summary

The Psychology PreDoctoral Intern position is a fulltime 12month 2000 hour) termlimited internship. Under close supervision of a collaborative team of mental health professionals the predoctoral intern provides confidential shortterm counseling/therapy to graduate and undergraduate students of the Reynolda Campus; consultation to students faculty and staff; and outreach/prevention efforts to the WFU community.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Provides initial diagnostic assessment individual and group counseling/therapy to students at the University.

  • Conducts crisis assessment and intervention for urgent/walkin appointments.

  • Under the supervision of a licensed mental health provider provides clinical supervision and consultation to UCC masterslevel graduate trainees in psychology and counseling during the second half of the year.

  • Works collaboratively with other university departments as members of the Division of Campus Life to ensure delivery of integrated professional services consistent with the mission and strategic directions of Campus Life.

  • Provides professional consultation to all members of the University community.

  • Provides outreach workshops and training on various mental health and wellbeing topics as needed.

  • Provides afterhours oncall crisis counseling on a rotating basis and occasional afterhours outreach as needed.

  • Keeps timely accurate and ethical records consistent with UCC policy.

Required Education Knowledge Skills Abilities:

  • Current enrollment in a doctoral program in either clinical or counseling psychology.

  • Successful completion of comprehensive exams prior to applying to the internship program.

  • Completion of all required doctoral coursework and practica prior to the internship start date.

  • Formal approval of doctoral dissertation proposal prior to the start date of the internship.

  • Certification of readiness to begin internship from the applicants doctoral program.

  • Demonstration of genuinely strong interest in counseling center work.

  • Basic skills and knowledge providing psychotherapy.

  • Knowledge skill and ability to work with a diverse student population

  • Willingness to learn and develop throughout the training year.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to keep accurate client records in accordance with policies laws and regulations.

  • Adherence to APA professional code of ethics.

Preferred Education Knowledge Skills Abilities:

  • Current enrollment in an APAaccredited doctoral program in clinical or counseling psychology.

  • Accrual of a minimum of 500 intervention hours during their doctoral practica.

  • Accrual of a minimum of 50 assessment hours during their doctoral practica.

  • Experience with mental health provision in a college or university counseling center.

  • Knowledge of and ability to use crisis intervention skills.

  • Experience providing clinical supervision to graduate trainees in counseling and psychology.

Accountabilities:

  • May provide clinical consultation and supervision to graduate student trainees.

Physical Requirements:

  • Constantly remaining in a sedentary position often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.

  • Occasionally moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.

  • Occasionally adjusting or moving objects up to 50 pounds in all directions.

  • Constantly communicating with others to exchange information.

  • Constantly repeating motions that may include the wrists hands and/or fingers.

  • Constantly assessing the neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.

Environmental Conditions:

  • Occasionally low temperatures.

  • Occasionally high temperatures.
