St.Amant supports over 5000 people in Manitoba with developmental disabilities autism and acquired brain injury. We are a notforprofit organization that offers a wide range of supports for adults children and their families. Position Summary:
The Recreational Therapist Clinical Service Lead is responsible for designing implementing and overseeing therapeutic recreation programs that enhance physical emotional and social wellbeing of children and adults with complex medical behavioral and disability support needs. This leadership role involves collaborating with interdisciplinary teams mentoring staff and ensuring high quality service delivery aligned with St.Amants organizational mission and values.

Qualifications:
Education Experience and Occupational Certification:
- Bachelors degree in Recreational Therapy Therapeutic Recreation or a related field.
- Membership in Canadian Therapeutic Recreation Association and Recreation Connections Manitoba preferred.
- Current certification in NonViolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) is required.
- First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training is preferred.
- 12 years recent experience working with individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities in a healthcare and or community environment.
- Must have extensive knowledge of social recreation and leisure programming and recreation resources in a healthbased setting and in the community.
Professional:
- Ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong understanding of therapeutic recreation principles assessment and interventions.
- Excellent leadership team building and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders including people supported their families volunteers and other health care professional.
- Proficiency in data collection analysis and report writing.
- Must demonstrate initiative resourcefulness creativity sound judgment and problemsolving skills in all areas of practice.
- Ability to organize and complete assignments with a minimum of supervision.

Program Design and Delivery:
- Utilizes the therapeutic process (assess plan implement and evaluate) to provide recreation interventions and/or programs for people supported in accordance with their age and social physical emotional cognitive spiritual and leisure needs.
- Develop and implement individualized and group recreation therapy plans to support people supported physical emotional and social wellbeing.
- Adapt recreational activities to meet the diverse needs of people supported.
- Facilitate therapeutic activities including art music sports outdoor and communitybased programs to promote skill development and social interaction.
Clinical Leadership:
- Serve as the clinical expert on recreational therapy within H&TS.
- Based on the assessment and goals established collaboratively with the client recommends participation in the appropriate therapeutic recreation services.
- Monitors and evaluates clients progress on an ongoing basis and communicates significant changes to the interdisciplinary team at rounds.
- Provide guidance to Recreation Instructors and Personal Support Workers (PSWs) on evidencebased practices and therapeutic approaches for both long term and shortterm interventions.
Collaboration and Advocacy:
- Work closely with interdisciplinary teams including nursing PSW and clinical staff to develop holistic care plans.
- Collaborate with families and caregivers to support continuity of care and ensure program alignment with person supported goals.
- Advocate for inclusion of individuals with disabilities in recreational and communitybased activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and coordinate innovative therapeutic recreational programs tailored to the needs abilities and interested of individuals supported within Health and Transition Services (H&TS).
- Ensure H&TS staff foster social inclusion skill development and overall enhanced quality of life.
- Evaluate program outcomes and make data driven adjustments to optimize effectiveness.
- Engage and support staff and volunteers in creating opportunities for Meaningful Connections through participation in that Program
- Provide clinical expertise and guidance to Recreation Instructor IIs Personal Support Workers and volunteers.
- Supervises and mentors Recreation Instructor IIs PSWs and volunteers.
- Participates when applicable in meetings for people supported to ensure that therapy and recreation plans align with each individuals selfdirected goals.
- Acts as a main point of contact for complex cases requiring specialized recreation therapy interventions.
- Supports the performance review process of Recreation Instructors in conjunction with the Manager of Adult Health Services.
Collaboration:
- Promotes a collaborative and inclusive workplace culture.
- Partners with families caregivers community organizations to integrate recreation into a persons broader support network.
- Advocates for rights and inclusion of individuals with disabilities into community recreation settings.
- Represents the organization at conferences workshops and community events to share expertise and foster partnerships.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervises and mentors Recreation Instructor IIs PSWs and volunteers ensuring a high standard of care.
- Leads recreation staff/service meetings.
- Participates in committee work and activities within the discipline Program Facility and WRHA.
- Improves the visibility of the Therapeutic Recreation role by demonstrating professional conduct and working collaboratively with other disciplines and services.
- Develops and maintains effective oral and written lines of communication with direct Manager colleagues/coworkers Manager of Volunteer Services and community resource personnel
- Organizes training sessions to enhance staff knowledge of therapeutic interventions methods and adaptive techniques.
- Monitor and participate in staff performance and provide constructive feedback and coaching.
DecisionMaking Authority:
- Identifies and makes recommendations for the purchase of materials and equipment needs for Therapeutic Recreation in H&TS and submitting requests to Manager of Adult Health Services.
- Monitors recreation program supplies and recommends replacement as necessary.
- May be involved in maintaining financial records of actual expenses for people supported activities.
- In consultation with Management has authority to plan and execute events and activities for people supported service areas and the larger H&TS program.
Performance Accountability:
- Identify and implement innovative recreational therapy interventions to enhance a personsupported experience in H&TS.
- Participates in quality assurance initiatives including data tracking program evaluations and feedback.
- Stays current with industry trends research and best practices in Therapeutic Recreation.
Compliance and Standards:
- Responsible for the safety of people supported students and volunteers at all times ensuring that adequate assistance is available for groups and outings.
- Responsible for the proper care and maintenance of all recreational equipment and clinical areas reporting any damage or loss to the Manager of Adult Health Services.
- Ensures awareness of emergency procedures both in and outside of H&TS.
- Adheres to all safety and health regulations and safe work practices.
- Supports a culture of safety.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Human Resource Management and Safety The Recreational Therapist Clinical Service is responsible to train supervise evaluate and direct the workflow and activities of a team of recruiters. Ensures the strategic support provided is consistent with the organizational values policies and procedures and its collective agreements. Adheres to and promotes all aspects of safety (physical emotional spiritual and psychological) and compliance with all applicable safety legislation throughout the organization.
Business Records and Retention Ensures that Business Records within their control are maintained archived or disposed of properly in accordance with the St.Amant Retention of Business Records Policy
Financial Resource and Facility Management The Recreational Therapist Clinical Serviceand prepares annual budget for approval. The incumbent ensures that all daytoday work as well as special projects and initiatives and resources (time supplies equipment) are undertaken or utilized in the most effective and efficient ways possible to support program activities.
Quality Management and Process Improvement The Recreational Therapist Clinical Service integrates the mission and values into all continuous quality improvement initiatives and emphasizes staff empowerment and accountability in HRS activities and materials.
Organizational Planning and Development The Recreational Therapist Clinical Service ensures that corporate activities align with St.Amant corporate objectives and reflect the changing human resource needs across the organization. The incumbent models and participates in initiatives that promote the leadership and vision of the organization.
Working Conditions:
- This position is required to work within the Health and Transition services program and will include both office /computer work and supporting communitybased events and outings.
- May be exposed to infectious diseases blood and body fluids toxic materials noise allergens physical and emotional stress.
- May be occasionally required to work extended hours.
- May be required to work a variety of shifts including evenings and weekends.
- Must be in good physical and mental health.
- May encounter aggressive and/or agitated clients/visitors/staff.
- Position includes all activities including sitting walking lifting twisting pushing pulling all within approved weight restrictions and education on use of proper body mechanics.
- Minimal psychosocial demands.
- Require attention to prioritization of workload management and meeting deadlines.

- Some cognitive demands may include requirements for concentration and decisionmaking problem solving judgement reading/writing information analysis
