Nature of Work: The Institutional Research Analyst under the direction of an Assistant Director or above assists in the design development and implementation of departmental processes and/or programs. Recommends policies and procedures to ensure effective coordination of departmental programs.
Typical Responsibilities: Uses statistical software (SPSS or SAS) or programming languages (SQL) to produce aggregate data for dissemination. Construct effective data displays including graphs to communicate key points for succinct and meaningful consumption. Transform raw data to prepared datasets for analysis and reporting. Responds to internal and external adhoc requests with accuracy and efficiency. During declared campus emergencies this position may be required to perform specific job related duties at a designated off campus location or place of residence.
Required Qualifications: This position requires either (a) Masters degree from an acceptable accredited institution in a directly related area of specialization; (b) Bachelors degree from an acceptable accredited institution in a directly related area of specialization and two years of experience directly related to the job functions; or (c 6 years of direct experience.
General Description / Primary Purpose:
The Institutional Research Programmer Analyst under the direction of an Assistant Director or above assists in the design development and implementation of departmental processes and/or programs. Recommends policies and procedures to ensure effective coordination of departmental programs. The Institutional Research Programmer Analyst will support Institutional Research in ensuring data quality and in collecting extracting analyzing reporting and distributing pertinent institutional data to aid decision making. The Institutional Research Programmer Analyst will write new and update/maintain existing data queries and reports utilizing SQL programming language.
Job Function:
Assists with the technical aspects of the creation distribution and collection of data reports raw data for analysis and interactive data dashboards.
Represents Institutional Research and institutional reporting interests (federal and state) when the university implements new data systems.
Designs codes and tests new program modules or revisions to existing programs.
Coordinates major data projects by developing deliverables and methods for the evaluation and quality control of institutional data.
Researches and develops strategies to capture and manage emerging data reporting requirements.
Leads guides and trains staff/graduate assistants assigned to data management projects.
Provides primary oversight of the Institutional Research Operational Data Store in the Enterprise Data Warehouse.
Produces detailed program specifications from general needs analysis.
Creates test data and creates and implements test plans.
Adapts to new systems by creating new ways of performing old processes.
Consult with users of computerbased information to develop access procedures to define questions and to design software solutions.
Responsible for representing IR and contributing critical thought and insight into the functional needs to specifications for database design.
Lead the IR Office in functional requirements of system upgrades in collaboration with ITS.
Serves as the institutional contact for the annual Hours to Degree SUDS Data Submission
Develops operational reports to support individual functional units and responds to adhoc data requests as needed
Provides technical support to the annual Faculty Activity Reporting Process
Play a major role in creating and maintaining an internal data manual so that changes in data definition will be welldocumented.
SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) Development and Debugging
Enterprise Data Warehouse Troubleshooting and Debugging
Oracle/Banner Administrative Application Code Analysis
Maintains code documentation and maintains and enforces version tracking.
Performs special projects and other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
During declared campus emergencies this position may be required to perform specific job related duties at a designated off campus location or place of residence.

Coordinates activities with University officials at all levels through participation on committees and through consultation.
Departmental Requirements:
Demonstrated experience with SQL. Experience with relational databases. Experience in designing reporting systems. Experience developing dashboards and data visualizations. Experience with Student Information Systems such as Banner PeopleSoft or Workday. Experience working in a higher education setting. Good written oral and analytical skills.

General supervision. The incumbent develops procedures for performing a variety of complex duties within established guidelines; has considerable freedom while the work is in process and receives instructions on new assignments.
Level of Public Contact:
Frequent internal contacts across organizational lines particularly Academic Affairs Information Technology Services Enrollment Services and Human Resources. Frequent contact with BOG personnel in the areas of Information Resource Management and Budget. Some contact with other external agency personnel.

Design computerbases information systems that adhere to BOG and university policies and procedures.
Program Direction and Development:
Stay abreast of changes in reporting requirements and procedures. Develop and implement procedures that ensure continuit of data required for internal and external reporting. Organize and maintain customized data reporting system. Ensure the integrity of all data reporting.
