Department

Denver Health Medical Center is recruiting a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our Pediatric Emergency Department and Urgent Care (PEDUC) and Pediatric Virtual Urgent Care (PVUC) team of 13 physicians and 7 advanced practice providers (APPs). Our Pediatric Emergency Department and Urgent Care (PEDUC) is a colocated pediatric emergency department and pediatric urgent care that sees approximately 30000 visits per year and is open 24/7 365 days per year. The PEDUC has a separate ambulance entrance waiting room and staff from the Adult Emergency Department on the Denver Health main campus and is a Level 2 verified ACS trauma center. Denver Health Medical Center has an inpatient pediatric ward and PICU for admissions. Our telemedicine Pediatric Virtual Urgent Care is growing and will be open 7 days per week by Summer 2025. Denver Healths mission is to provide access to high quality preventive acute and chronic health care for all citizens of Denver regardless of ability to pay. Denver Health is affiliated with the University of Colorado School of Medicine and the PEDUC serves as a training site for emergency medicine pediatric and family medicine residents as well as medical and APP students. Job Summary:

Under attending physician supervision the APP in the PEDUC and PVUC will provide inperson and virtual acute care to pediatric patients (ages 019 years) including performing history and physical exams ordering diagnostic workups as indicated by clinical presentation and setting development of a treatment plan consultation with medical and surgical specialties arranging necessary outpatient follow up prescribing medications performing procedures within the scope of expertise and departmental protocols and completing thorough and timely documentation. The applicant must function well as part of a multidisciplinary team and should be highly selfmotivated organized and capable of using their time efficiently. At least one year of experience in an urgent care or emergency care setting is preferred with a significant portion of that time caring for pediatric patients.


Essential Functions:

• Monitors and evaluates medical condition of patient and under the supervision of a physician and in collaboration with other disciplines and standards of care or applying appropriate protocols make decisions regarding treatment changes. Refers patient to specialized services as needed. 20
• Determines and assesses the health status of patients by reviewing records taking comprehensive medical histories and performing physical examinations. 20
• Orders and administers appropriate medications within the limits of the appropriate statutory limitations or refers patient to a caregiver in a specialty area. Initiates performs or directs other healthcare professionals to perform screenings and diagnostic tests. 15
• Completes required documentation legibly thoroughly and in a timely manner. Prepares and maintains complete and accurate charts case files and records. 10
• Participates in clinical education of healthcare students as seen fit by the supervising medical staff. 5
• May be assigned to perform lead work and/or involvement in clinical coordination health station management or responsibility for special projects which may encompass protocol development management planning scheduling and other administrative tasks as necessary to support practice environment. 10
• Attends and participates in administrative staff meetings. Utilizes the principles and practices of effective communication to elicit information negotiate problem resolution and/or garner support for various programs or policies. 10
• Follows established departmental policies and procedures quality improvement safety environmental and infection control standards. 10

Education:

• Masters Degree Required

Work Experience:

• 13 years related clinical experience preferred.

Licenses:

• CNAACertified Nursing Administration Advanced AONL American Organization for Nursing Leadership Required and
• CSRCControlled Substance Regulation Certification DEA Drug Enforcement Agency Required and
• BLSBasic Life Support (BLS/CPR) AHA American Heart Association Required

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of medical principals and procedures.
• Knowledge of community resources for appropriate procedures.
• Skill in eliciting history from patients performing physical exams and formulating assessments of and treatment plans for patients.
• Ordering appropriate diagnostic studies to aid in diagnosis.
• Knowledge of appropriate administration and prescription of medications.
• Skill in utilizing the principles and practices of effective and persuasive communication to elicit information negotiate problem resolution and/or garner support for various programs or policies.
• Skill in obtaining information from patients calming and reassuring patients and motivating patients to accept treatments.
• Ability to exercise initiative and judgment in selecting proper treatment.
• Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations.
• Ability to prepare accurate reports.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees other departments and the public.
• Computer skills required.
• Computer skills preferred.
