Job Description

Our initial crewed space habitat will be Haven1 scheduled to be the worlds first commercial space station when it launches into low earth orbit in May 2026. Vast is looking for a Tooling Manufacturing Engineering reporting to the Manager Primary Structures Manufacturing Engineering to support the development of the systems that will be required for the design and build of artificialgravity humanrated space stations.

This will be a fulltime exempt position located in our Long Beach location.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the fabrication of fixtures and tooling required for Haven1 assembly lifting and handling
  • Collaborate with tooling engineering and production to define fixture and tooling specifications qualification plans and introduce to production
  • Develop operation and maintenance plans for all test fixtures and tooling
  • Assist the facilities manager(s) in all aspects of project implementation as needed
  • Manage schedule on assigned projects including critical next steps deadlines and outcome
  • Manage vendor relationships and coordinate meetings to identify new technologies and how they can be applied to Vasts cutting edge applications
  • Develop test and implement tool improvements to yield time savings or tolerance improvements
  • Coordinate tooling modifications related to part production or other changes
  • Coordinate and track engineering changes with upstream and downstream stakeholders
  • Oversee/ track recovery strategies when nonconformances issues or other escapes are identified
  • Coordinate with procurement internal and external stakeholders to ensure that hardware/ tooling priorities are understood and are actively managed to support need dates
  • Work closely with engineering stakeholders and technicians to solve productionrelated issues
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to address program process gaps

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering Electrical Engineering Industrial Aerospace or other related engineering discipline
  • 5 years of experience in aerospace or automotive tooling
  • 5 years of experience in NX or other 3D CAD packages

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Experience with GD&T
  • Experience with work orders and assembly instructions
  • Design of pneumatic electrical or hydraulic motion systems
  • Critical lifting and break overs fixtures
  • Integration tooling design
  • A passion for hardware development including working in a fastpaced environment and handson design and development.
  • Experience with NX & Teamcenter
  • Experience in Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA)
  • Design experience including analysis and drawing development
  • Ability to earn trust build and maintain positive and professional relationships and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Strong bias for action and ownership understanding which decisions can be made quickly with low risk and which require thoughtful deliberation
  • Knowledge of project planning and practices including logiclinked schedule management
  • Experience with GANTTstyle project management tools
  • Significant configuration management experience of complex assemblies

Pay Range:

  • Manufacturing Engineer I: $85000 $105000
  • Manufacturing Engineer II: $100000 $130000

Salary Range: California

$85000 $130000 USD

U.S. EXPORT CONTROL COMPLIANCE STATUS

This status includes U.S. citizens U.S. nationals lawful permanent residents (green card holders) and asylees and refugees with such status granted not pending.
