Vehicle and Equipment Crew Leader

$23.96 $25.04 6 month rate)
Basic Function:
Functions as a working crew leader over Vehicle and Equipment Mechanics and assists with the repair maintenance and inspection of a variety of vehicles and equipment with gasoline and/or diesel engines (e.g. passenger cars vans trucks tractors lawnmowers loaders etc.. Reports to designated supervisor.

Functions as a working crew leader over Vehicle and Equipment Mechanics and other classified temporary or student employees engaged in automotive maintenance and related activities.

Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent plus completion of 12 to 18 months formal training in diesel and gasoline engine repair (or equivalent training or experience which provides comparable knowledge skills and abilities). A minimum of three years experience in a variety of vehicle and equipment repair to include gasoline gaseous and diesel engines including hydraulic acdc electrical and mechanical systems. Employee must provide all basic tools needed for this position.
License/Certification:
Must possess valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with proper endorsements and safe driving record or obtain as soon as possible with extension up to 6 months from date of hire if position requires operation of vehicles regulated by Section 4506.01 of Ohio Revised Code. Must possess current Type II and MVAC (Motor Vehicle Air Conditioning) certifications or acquire certifications during employee probationary period. Individuals will be subject to controlled substance/alcohol testing in positions where such is required by federal regulations.
Knowledge Of:
Electronic electrical air and hydraulic systems
Appropriate safety practices
Inventory control
Skill In:
Welding (i.e. mig and stick) *
Interpersonal communication to effectively interact with university personnel and public in person and over the telephone (e.g. to gather information about breakdowns to schedule equipment repairs to transmit work directives)
Engine repair (e.g. two and four cycle single or multiple cylinder engines gasoline gaseous and diesel fuel systems hydraulic electrical and mechanical systems)
The use of mechanics tools including hand and power tools
Written communication (e.g. to complete forms to compose memos)
Ability To:
Train and provide effective work direction to other employees
Plan and direct work activities to manage time effectively and set priorities
Resolve problems independently and make decisions
Diagnose problems and determine appropriate action
Operate computerized diagnostic equipment *
Perform basic mathematics (e.g. add subtract multiply and divide whole numbers fractions and decimals and to calculate percentages)
Read (e.g. technical manuals service bulletins manufacturers warranties) and interpret and apply schematic diagrams
Demonstrate physical dexterity and lift 100 pounds *
Maintain accurate records
Preferred Qualifications if applicable:
Prior supervisory experience may be preferred.
Certification by Automotive Service Excellence preferred.
Assessments:

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:
Garage environment; exposed to dirt grease chemicals fumes loud noise slippery surfaces potentially dangerous equipment (e.g. rack lift) variable temperatures and weather conditions; requires considerable physical exertion to include frequent lifting of items up to 50 pounds (e.g. blocks headsets) and occasional lifting of 100 pounds (e.g. tires) extended periods of standing bending or assuming awkward positions; may work varied hours and shifts to include evenings weekends and holidays; may be called to work in emergency situations; requires onandoffcampus travel.
Working Schedule:
Monday through Friday 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; however schedule may vary to meet departmental needs.
