Your tasks

In the Institue of Chemistry and Bioanalytics (School of Life Sciences FHNW) we are looking for a bright and enthusiastic PhD student in the group of Prof. Laura SuterDick Cell biology and in vitro toxicology.
The main focus of the 4year project will be:
  • Developing and implementing state of the art advanced cell culture systems (e.g. 3Dcultures brainspheres)
  • Investigating developmental neurotoxicity with particular focus on elucidating and assessing the role of microglia

The project is funded by SCAHT (Swiss Centre for Applied Human Toxicology) and will be carried out in collaboration with the University of Lausanne ETHZurich and University of Geneva. The working place will be in the FHNW new Campus Muttenz just outside Basel Switzerland.

Your profile

We are looking for a candidate with the following qualifications:

  • Experience in mammalian cell culture preferably using iPSCs with a focus on neurobiology
  • Knowhow in 3Dcell cultures and microfluidic systems would be an asset
  • Strong interest in toxicology and in the development of new approach methodologies (NAMs)
  • Proficiency in performing standard cellbased assays (cytotoxicity qPCR immunofluorescence)
  • Willingness to develop and implement new approaches in a collaboration with skilled neuroscientist in our institute and in collaborating universities
  • Interest in imaging techniques and experience in microscopy techniques would be an asset
  • Fluency in English (oral and written)
  • Knowledge of German and/or Frenchwould be beneficial
