Alfred Health is a leader in health care delivery improvement research and education. We are the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne from ambulatory to inpatient and home and communitybased services.

  • Fixed term until 31st of October 2025

About The Organisation

Alfred Health and Monash Health have established a partnership to deliver a Shared Pathology Service (SPS). This partnership is aligned with the Victorian Governments wider Pathology system reform to create new public pathology networks. We are working in partnership to ensure we meet future demands and continue to provide high quality pathology services for our patients and the community across both health services. In addition following the recommendation to form local health service networks by the Department of Health Alfred Health will be merging with Peninsula Health Bass Coast Health Gippsland Southern Health and Kooweerup Regional Health Services effective from 1 January 2026.

The Role

The Scientist in this position will be responsible for the setup and verification of instruments across the Western Health (WH) Laboratories i.e. at New Footscray Hospital and Sunshine Hospital. Following training and under the supervision of the Principal Scientists at Prahran the incumbent will perform verification studies on the new instruments installed at the Western Health sites provide staff training and carryout daytoday equipment maintenance and management of quality control and quality assurance programs as required.
The position will require the incumbent to work on premises under construction and will be required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment whilst on these premises. These include but are not limited to Safety Helmet steeltoe covered footwear safety glasses and highvisibility vests. As such the position will require a White Card qualification the cost of which will be covered by the SPS.

Skills and qualification(s):

  • Bachelors degree in science Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Scientist) or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years experienceworking in Clinical Biochemistry.
  • Demonstrate indepth expertise in Clinical Biochemistry.
  • Demonstrated organisational and leadership skills.
  • Sound verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency and good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Class C drivers license and willingness to travel to the various WH and Prahran sites as needed.

Desirables:

  • Previous project management experience setting up a pathology laboratory.
