This Job Description outlines the basic requirements duties and general responsibilities of the position of Lifeguard/Swim Instructor. Unless modified by a written Employment Agreement this position is atwill which means the KenCaryl Ranch Metropolitan District (District) may terminate the employment relationship at any time and for no reason subject only to the requirements of federal and state law. Similarly the employee may terminate the employment relationship without notice at any time for no reason.

Job Summary:
Lifeguards work under the direct supervision of Lead Lifeguards the Pool Manager and the Aquatics and Community Coordinator. Daily hours range from 5:30am to 10:00pm with some hours earlier or later for special events or swim meets. Lifeguards are responsible for providing a safe environment and enjoyable experience for our guests. Lifeguards will also perform the duties of Aquatics Guest Service. Guest Services Aquatics serve as point of entry for checkin payments admissions and sales for the seasonal pools. Hours range from 10:00 am 7:00 pm seven days a week with the opportunity for more hours during special events.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are an overview of the primary duties and responsibilities of Lifeguard and should not be considered an allinclusive list.
A. Provides supervision/surveillance of all patrons in the pool area at all times; Interacts with customers in a professional manner regarding emergency safety violations other customer service issues.
B. Demonstrates lifeguarding skills knowledge and to exceed industry standards.
C. Prepares and teaches assigned swim lessons to participants of all ages and abilities.
D. Reacts calmly and immediately to emergency situations and administers proper care; provides emergency care and treatment until EMS arrives.
E. Enforces pool rules and policies at all times; utilizes appropriate communication devices such as whistles hand signals written and spoken words; completes daily and required documents in a legible and professional manner.
F. Performs daily pool cleaning and maintenance duties including but not limited to regular cleaning of strainer baskets vacuuming and skimming the pool cleaning deck and grass areas emptying trash receptacles cleaning restrooms and overall cleanliness of the facility.
G. Attend ongoing trainings and meetings bimonthly.
H. Consistently promote a positive professional image of the District and provide excellent customer service at all times.
I. Tracks admissions utilizes software system for all registrations payments memberships and rentals.
J. Responsible for adhering to cash handling procedures to ensure that all transactions are accounted for appropriately.
K. Greet and assist patrons who walkin or call on the phone; answer questions take registrations sell passes or provide general customer service; resolve issues or direct to another staff member.
L. Provides excellent first point of contact customer service to guests.
M. Responsible for cleaning/maintenance of admissions hut and surrounding areas.
N. Consistently promotes a positive professional image of the District and provides excellent customer service at all times.
Required Experience:
1. Must be at least 15 years of age by the first day of Lifeguard Training.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
1. Ability to maintain knowledge of CPR Rescue Breathing First Aid and all other emergency care and treatment at test ready levels and ability to react competently calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
2. Effective and clear written and oral communicator with a variety of audiences including staff the community and supervisors.
3. Ability to problem solve in challenging situations.
4. Ability to work a schedule that will include evenings early mornings weekends and holidays as conditions or programming schedules might dictate; Must have the ability to be flexible and be able to adapt to changing daily schedules based on timelines and facility needs.
5. Ability to read write speak and understand the English language at a level adequate to perform the job.
6. Working in a variety of locations and sometimes in challenging weather conditions.
7. Develop and maintain relationships with District employees volunteers the community public agencies and the private sector; ability to work with children of all ages.
Special Requirements:
1. Completion of StarGuard Elites International Lifeguard Training Program to receive a StarGuard Elite Lifeguard license.
2. Must be able to work a minimum of 15 hours a week preferrable for the duration of the season (May 27Sept 4.
Work and Physical Requirements:
Working Environment
1. Moderate physical activity will be required frequently.
2. Work will be required outdoors in all weather conditions.
3. Work may be required under hazardous and adverse conditions including but not limited to slippery and uneven surfaces and proximity to moving mechanical equipment.
4. Use of sensory activities such as talking seeing hearing smelling feeling (identifying objects by touch) depth perception and color vision will be required frequently.
5. Work will involve periods of high physical mental and/or emotional stress.
Physical Requirements
1. Have ability to lift move and carry objects more than fifty 50 pounds frequently.
2. Have ability to stand walk sit kneel stoop bend lift squat push pull crawl jump slide climb pinch grip reach overhead reach away from body and perform repetitive motions.
3. Be able to work evenings holidays and weekends as needed.
Full Time
