Job Description

This position is temporary and/or intermittent in nature. Length of service is greater than 100 hours. This will be hybrid work experience requiring an inperson presence at Seattle Childrens Research Institute (SCRI) approximately 12 days per week.

Seattle Childrens Center Business Operations office (CBO) seeks an intern to assist in various areas of the research project lifecycle and will divide their time between at least two interdisciplinary Centers. The intern will provide support all aspects of daily operations including supporting the financial and administrative requirements in grant application preparation financial reconciliations progress reporting and award closeout. This experience will provide the intern with an opportunity to learn about the field of Research Administration and Grants Management and gain exposure to the business and administrative processes required to support research projects at a large research institute.

Seattle Childrens CBO is responsible for research administration support for principal investigators and their research teams at SCRI within its eight Centers. Our eight interdisciplinary Centers (listed below) address areas central to pediatric health and use an open lab format to foster a rich collaborative environment. Investigators draw from different departments divisions and disciplines to find new cures for childhood diseases faster. The CBOworks on the daytoday fiscal and administrative operations for the Centers including the management and oversight of operational and research budgets pre and postaward management recruitment and onboarding/offboarding of faculty.

An ideal candidate brings curiosity analytical skills and a desire to learn the wideranging impact of research administration within Seattle Childrens and our sponsors and partner institutions. Training will include an orientation to Seattle Childrens CBO teams and project areas and related tools. This role will provide meaningful exposure for those interested in exploring a potential career in research grants management including Grants and Contract Administrator roles.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Rising junior from local college or technical school
  • Strong desire to engage with Seattle Childrens employees patients and families
  • Strong desire to engage with the community with a focus on inclusion diversity equity and access

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to effectively problemsolve and handle moderately to highly complex problems/issues in standard or emergent situations and to be innovative and creative
  • Able to work with a diverse group of people in a fastpaced environment often with frequent interruptions
  • Able to remain highly organized work independently and prioritize work from multiple sources; and effectively participate as a team member
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word Excel Access & Outlook)
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks often with competing deadlines

Salary Information

This compensation range was calculated based on fulltime employment 2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity skills experience and expertise and may vary within the range provided.
