PURPOSE:
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for providing direct services for children adults and seniors who reside at Little City to ensure they are healthy safe and are learning skills which will enable them to be contributing members of their home and local community. The DSP utilizes Active Engagement techniques to assist individuals with completing personal tasks maintaining a clean living environment and assists them as needed while they are in the community. The DSP completes documentation of each persons progress toward their written objectives per direction from the Quality of Life Coordinator (QLC).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Must have a high school diploma or GED certificate and be at least 23 years of age. One years experience working with adults with developmental behavioral and/or emotional challenges preferred. Be able to demonstrate functional literacy. The DSP must be able to speak and write clearly and communicate information effectively in English. A valid drivers license is required. The DSP must also meet the LCF insurance requirements per policy in order to be maintained on the Approved Drivers list. This DSP position is a Pace Certified position.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job the employee is subject to sitting walking and standing for prolonged periods; frequently grasps lifts holds or feels objects; occasionally stoops kneels crouches or crawls. The employee frequently is required to use manual and finger dexterity and eyehand coordination when working with persons served and handling office medical or household equipment. The employee is subject to assist and support up to 50 pounds with varying amounts of assistance on a reoccurring basis. The employee is required to have corrected vision and hearing within normal range and the ability to operate a motor vehicle. Must have the ability to perform CPR and CPI. Occupational exposure to blood body fluids infectious substances including communicable diseases when performing personal care (Category III). Occasional exposure to cleaning agents and disinfectants. Residential work environment with a noise level of normal to loud.
