Job Description

Summary

Assistant Professor of Actuarial Science (fulltime 9month tenuretrack) in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. Start date is August 2025.

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is located within the College of Arts and Sciences. The vision for our College aligned with the universitys strategic plan is to ensure that our students graduate careerready to meet the worlds challenges and that our faculty research and creative activity contribute to the public good. We achieve this through robust collaboration across departmental boundaries with particular attention given to increasing experiential learning for our undergraduate and graduate students and connecting our scholarly and creative work to the needs of our region. We are especially interested in recruiting candidates who can contribute excellence in teaching scholarly/creative work and/or service toward achieving inclusive excellence throughout the university and to the greater community. The College is committed to faculty success providing resources and support within the Deans Office and through collaboration with Arts and Sciences departments and schools leadership teams in other colleges and universityserving partners such as the Center for Faculty Excellence. Through these connections we have developed a comprehensive cohortbased mentorship program to support the professional growth and advancement of faculty across all disciplines and ranks. Information about Program and College
The Department enjoys a nationally ranked doctoral program that offers a full range of graduate programs including two doctoral degree programs (PhD in Mathematics and PhD in Statistics) and undergraduate major specializations in actuarial science statistics data science pure math and applied math. Actuarial science is the largest of the undergraduate specializations and many graduate students take graduatelevel courses in actuarial science. In addition the Department participates in the recently established interdisciplinary PhD and MS programs in Data Science. The Department has 27 fulltime faculty members more than 70 graduate students and about 100 undergraduate majors. The faculty are committed to excellence in teaching research and service. Essential Functions

Minimum Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
  • Progress toward or attainment of professional actuarial credentials (e.g. ASA ACAS FSA or FCAS).
  • Experience as an instructor of record for Actuarial Science courses.
  • Peerreviewed publicationsin Actuarial Science Risk Management or a related area (e.g. Risk Analysis Risk and Insurance).
  • Experience seeking external research funding.

Finalist will be required to submit official transcripts and written letters of reference.

BGSU policy requires finalist to authorize and pass a background check prior to receiving an offer of employment.
