The Queens Vertical Farming Team founded in 2019 is Canadas first undergraduate engineering team of its kind. Recognizing this rapidly emerging industry QVFT is designing and building a functional softwareautomated aeroponic vertical farm on Queens University campus. The majority of existing research in this field is conducted privately and is thus inaccessible to the public. Through its opensource approach QVFT aims to democratize vertical farming knowledge and research. There are three subteams that this position will be hiring for which are as follows: Plant Science Mechanical Business and Stack. Mechanical Team Member:
The Mechanical Team at QVFT focuses on the physical design testing and construction of the vertical farm. Designers on this team will be responsible for creating precise CAD models of our vertical farm systems as well as sourcing physical materials for the project such as pumps valves and piping. Additionally a mechanical designers duties include assisting in the construction of the vertical farm which involves routing piping assembling grow boxes and mounting fixtures to the farm frame. An interest in working with tools piping and handson tasks is an asset for this role.
Preferred Knowledge:
Stack Team Member:
The Stack Team within QVFT focuses on maintaining the website and designing the virtual dashboard for our farm in the future. This would involve taking data reported via sensors to an online dashboard on our website so viewers can see the humidity nutrients and light levels at the farm remotely. A Stack team members duties include website design keeping the website current and an interest in coding.
Preferred Knowledge:
Plant Science Team Member:
The Plant Science Team within QVFT focuses on researching what plants need to thrive within the vertical farm. This position involves researching plants nutrient needs lighting requirements and determining the best fertilizer mix for each given plant. Plant Science team members would also be responsible for testing research findings and using statistical tests and computational tools to analyze data.

Business Team Member:
The Business Team within QVFT focuses on outreach to acquire industry partnerships and research grants. This team primarily works to involve QVFT in conferences both within and outside of the Queens community and builds partnerships with other aligned teams at Queens. This team is also responsible for our social media presence on Instagram.
