Job Description
Enable Internet businesses to sell across borders
Were tackling a key challenge for all Internet businesses today: navigating the changing landscape of tax. In the last few years software businesses have gone from not having to worry about sales tax to needing to monitor their exposure calculate local sales tax rates and file returns in over 20 US states and many countries worldwide.
So much of our economy today and tomorrow exists online. The internet economy has grown 6x over the last 10 years and software development productivity is only positioned to accelerate. Companies should be able to transact with customers everywhere. Anrok is building the tools behind the scenes that make compliant digital commerce a reality for companies big and small.
Anrok connects with billing and payment systems to automate sales tax compliance endtoend. We have raised over $50M from leading investors like Sequoia Index and Khosla Ventures.
In this role youll design build and operate the systems that support our product and the engineers who build it. Were looking for someone who wants to own their impact and find simple solutions to complex problems that are tailored to our needs. We use GCP Pulumi Postgres and TypeScript but prior experience is not required.
In this role you will:
Take responsibility for Anroks reliability security scalability and performance.
Drive technical decisions about our infrastructure.
Identify and fix bugs and technical debt.
Collaborate with other engineers and management to build highimpact solutions.
Example project areas:
Improve system observability and provide tools to enable product engineers to own application observability.
Scale our database layer through sharding replication and splitting out services when it makes sense.
Refactor existing systems to take into account present and evolving needs.
What excites us:
You have a strong technical background with 5 years of experience in software engineering.
You have 3 years of experience operating clouddeployed software at scale using configascode.
Experience managing relational databases at scale is a plus but not required.
You have a security mindset and think carefully about edge cases.
You think through problems thoroughly to ensure were building the right solution to the right problem at the right time and you will push back when necessary.
Your designs take into account current and future needs technical debt and maintenance and you can clearly articulate the tradeoffs.

For employees based in the San Francisco Bay Area we follow a hybrid model where we come into the office 3 days a week to collaborate in person. For employees located outside of the San Francisco Bay Area you will work remotely fulltime.
