Lead Engineer Point of Sales Systems IT/Systems department

Point of Sales (POS) systems are used extensively throughout our businesses. This includes hotels restaurants retail and attraction businesses. There are multiple POS systems and hardware configurations. These include Micros (currently 3 unique versions) Aloha CEGID Squirrel and related integrated software such as Yellow Dog. This position reports to the Manager of Information Services and is responsible for taking the lead on managing all POS systems recommending improvements implementing and maintaining role security within the systems in conjunction with the Financial Controller of Food and Beverage. As lead of POS you will providing your guidance and feedback on the POS systems including POS optimization vendor analyses (both software and hardware related) and their integration into the broader CNH Group IT infrastructure. Operating within a small IT team as Lead for POS you will have other team members working with you on projects or on issues the ability to work effectively in a team is critical. Your skill set would also include hands on troubleshooting/support of higher level calls on the majority of the systems; determining the urgency of the situation relative to other calls and comfortably prioritizing issues. You will also be required to locate the resources necessary to correct issues as they arise. This can include calling vendors working with internal resources then communicating and documenting the resolution of said issue.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide effective support timely organization and direction in regards to point of Sales systems ensuring the reliability and accuracy of the applicable IT system and initiating/responding to urgent client and departments issues (eg. phone email signal messaging service etc.
  • Communicating key issues/problems on POS related issues to the IT Team to keep them up to date.
  • Responsible for all hardware preventative maintenance issues pertaining to any of the POS system. Including the setup and reading/checking the various monitoring systems (PRTG NinjaOne) and provide direction or complete the necessary steps to address the critical issues to prevent system or user downtime.
  • Explore and report on more effective and efficient POS processes solutions enhancements and technologies.
  • Provide or create documentation/technical specifications or standard operating procedures to IT staff for planning and implementing new or upgrades of IT infrastructure where required and as directed by the Manager of Information services.
  • Responsible for timely completion of projects assigned and the quality of the applicable solution(s).

Qualifications/Skills/Competencies

  • A working experience of POS systems installations and maintenance with an ability to learn new POS technologies or explore and recommend improvements over the current practices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of SQL Server and/or other Database systems.
  • Effectively communicate both verbally and written with various internal users and suppliers.
  • Ability to create and maintain a positive working relationships with suppliers.
  • Ability to understand and implement/communicate supplier Standards and protocols.
  • Explore new options/enhancements/technologies
  • Works well within a small team of people where there are leads on various aspects of our Information Infrastructure with a willingness to work together to grow and support each other as necessary
  • This position may require you to work weekend days and holidays as well as participate in the afterhours on call shifts.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Operating Systems such as Server OS Windows 10/11 Workstation virtualization and MS Active Directory.
  • Proficiency with database and patch management to be able to do current POS updates read and understand POS data logs and resolve POS related issues.
  • Proficiency with Active Directory Management & Troubleshooting.
  • Able to plan support and lead POS test readiness reviews formal system verification of the system requirements and provide final test reports.
  • Working knowledge of Symphony Cloud and On Premises is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Networking and VLAN management in regards to POS systems is a plus.
