Job Description

The Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board (CSRAB) is responsible for maintaining the historic character of Capitol Square while providing for the health safety and convenience of those who work in and visit the complex. CSRAB is charged with interpreting the role of Ohios Statehouse in national and Ohio history to celebrate its art and architecture and to highlight its ongoing impact on the daily lives of Ohioans and thereby inspire all Ohioans to participate in state government.

On behalf of the Deputy Director of Museum and Education and under the direct supervision of the Historic Site Manager the Statehouse Interpreter conducts tours of the Capitol Square complex assists tour groups as they enter and exit the Statehouse gives educational speeches to tour groups regarding matters of historical interest researches and creates content for specialty tours creates and portrays a historic character for specialty tours.

Collaborates with the Tour Coordinator to assist volunteer tour guides as needed. Checks groups in for the tours in the Map Room confirms schedule with group leaders and answer questions groups leaders have. Serves as the main checkin person for legislators and legislative staff who meet with groups. Assists with coordinating groups in and out of the Map Room assists with lunch time coordination and confirms space availability with volunteer tour guides.

Provides customer service to visitors by answering their questions helping with wayfinding and being familiar with the daily activities taking place in the Capitol Square complex. Familiarizes themself with the legislative activities in order to assist visitors and tour groups. Acts as the liaison between tour groups or visitors and legislators or legislative staff. Checks in with the House and Senate Clerk offices to confirm legislative schedules.

Assists in the research development and implementation of Statehouse educational material and programs. Copies and maintains stock of public brochures and inhouse forms. Takes photographs of various departmental events and exhibits. Maintains and updates social media pages. Other related duties as assigned.

Requirements: high school diploma; some college or college degree preferred. Must be comfortable speaking with the public. Experience giving tours or leading classes is a plus. Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time. Must have an interest in Ohio history and state government but no previous experience in those areas is required.
