Job Description

Director Global Internal Communications Oncology R&D

Gaithersburg MD

Hybrid Work on average 3 days a week from office

At AstraZeneca we have a bold ambition to one day eliminate cancer as a cause of death. We are seeking a Global Internal Communications Director to join us and help bring our Oncology ambition and strategy to life. In this role you will help build employee understanding of and belief in our Oncology R&D strategy and progress. You will be a core member of the Oncology R&D Communications team while collaborating with other teams across AstraZeneca in particular the Oncology Corporate and Internal Communications and Global Oncology Product Communication teams. You will provide advice and guidance on internal communications matters and coach executives and senior leaders to deliver effective communications.

Accountabilities/Duties:

  • Highlight progress towards Oncology R&Ds scorecard goals strategic priorities and Oncology ambition.

  • In collaboration with product communication leads create timely internal posts for pipeline milestones including major approvals submissions regulatory designations pivotal readouts and key data presentations.

  • Lead on the development of updates to share our quarterly pipeline progress internally.

  • Identify other opportunities to amplify achievements and the teams behind them e.g. site town halls EOY webcast.

  • Lead on communication for key Oncology R&D change programmes.

  • Advise coach and counsel internal stakeholders including senior leaders on events/issues that need to be communicated internally.

  • Pull through Enterprise and Global Internal Comms initiatives to Oncology R&D.

  • Measurement of effectiveness of communication approaches provision of analysis and recommendations to drive continuous improvements.

Essential for the role:

  • PhD degree to provide strong scientific understanding with experience of working in Oncology.

  • 57 years of relevant experience

  • Proven experience of working in a fastpaced global communications team.

  • Established track record of delivering impactful content rich internal communications programmes across multiple channels and stakeholders with demonstrable measures of success.

  • Experience of managing different stakeholder relationships confident at forging trusted relationships at a senior level.

  • Ability to clearly articulate complex scientific information into effective and compelling communication that is appropriate for different audiences.

  • Sound judgement combined with good interpersonal and influencing skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

  • Strong social and digital skills and knowledge of technology options.

  • Manage conflicting priorities stakeholder and colleague expectations and deliver consistently highquality outputs.

  • High level of integrity able to handle highly confidential information.

  • Proactive with high levels of selfmotivation and personal accountability bringing enthusiasm and energy to team peer group and tasks.

Desirable for the role:

  • MSc or MBA degree

Office Working Requirements

The annual base pay (or hourly rate of compensation) for this position ranges from $00 USD as an annual base salary. Hourly and salaried nonexempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours.Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors including market location jobrelated knowledge skills and experience. In addition our positions offer a shortterm incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equitybased longterm incentive program (salaried roles)to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles) and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program 401(k) plan; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and health benefits including medical prescription drug dental and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired employee will be in an atwill position and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay(as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time including for reasons related to individual performance Company or individual department/team performance and market factors.
