Summary The Urban Youth Program provides employment to local community youth between the ages of 18 24. Interns participate in this earn while you learn program working as Peer Mentors with the Strive2Thrive Program participants. Peer Mentors will work with the Strive 2 Thrive Program Director and Urban Youth Coordinator to enhance their learning and further develop their knowledge and support for participants on the autism spectrum. Essential Job Functions - Attend regular discussion groups with the intern team as required.
- Participate in performance assessment and appraisal process.
- Adhere to and follow all safety policies; report any hazards to supervisors immediately.
- Monitor individuals you are assigned to be with.
- Help individuals to participate in and learn from the activities they engage in.
- Accompany and assist the individual with community activities to increase understanding of social norms and independence skills.
- Gain and apply knowledge of the individuals strengths abilities weak areas needs behaviors and motivators.
- Effectively interact with and motivate the individual to reach personal goals.
- Role model appropriate social communication and actions in all settings.
Education& Experience - Must be between the ages of 18 24 years old.
- Must be physically able to walk and/or run 100 yards.
- Ability to respond appropriately and quickly to health safety and emergency situations.
- Ability to communicate effectively with adults in a caring and clear manner.
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities preferred.
- Ability to deal with problem solving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
