The Chemistry Department at the College of Saint Benedict and Saint Johns University invites applications for a fulltime tenuretrack Assistant Professor position to begin in August of 2025. Review of applicants will start on September 30 2024 and continue until position is filled.

The College of Saint Benedict (CSB) a liberal arts college for women and Saint Johns University (SJU) a liberal arts college for men are located in the central lakes area of Minnesota surrounded by more than 3000 acres of pristine forests prairies and lakes. With a total enrollment of approximately 2900 students faculty members develop relationships with students in small classroom settings and have opportunities to work closely with students on research projects experiential learning experiences and study abroad programs. A successful candidate will have a substantial background in any of organic inorganic bioorganic bioinorganic organometallic chemistry and teach courses and laboratories in chemical reactivity as part of our innovative curriculum https://www.csbsju/chemistry/curriculum as well as upper division courses in their field of expertise. A successful candidate will have a strong commitment to innovative undergraduate teaching and research in the context of a liberal arts institution and a desire to teach across chemistry subdisciplines. A successful candidate will also have the ability to maintain an active undergraduate research program in a modern facility with robust instrumentation. In addition this position will serve as an academic advisor helping students craft 4year plans as well as summer and postgraduate plans. This position will also contribute to service work aimed at moving the department and institution forward. Postdoctoral experience is preferred; a Ph.D. is required by August 2025.
Required:
Ph.D. in organic inorganic bioorganic bioinorganic or organometallic chemistry
Laboratory experience in chemical purification synthesis and characterization or biochemical techniques
Interest in teaching from an active learning framework
Interest in learning about and teaching in other areas of chemistry outside of disciplinary specific background
Ability to design and maintain an active undergraduate research program
Evidence of teaching effectiveness
Demonstrated commitment to diversity equity and inclusion
Preferred:
Postdoctoral training
Ability to offer synthetic undergraduate research opportunities
Teaching as instructor of record
Ability to work as an effective team member
Experience mentoring and facilitating student groups
Strong verbal and written communication skills
