The City of Abbotsford is seeking a skilled and motivated professional to join their team as a Drainage Planning Engineer in the Utilities Division. Reporting to the Senior Drainage and Wastewater Engineer this role involves managing and planning the Diking Drainage and Irrigation (DDI) areas while supporting the storm drainage area.

As a Drainage Planning Engineer prepare and oversee longterm capital plans and master planning for Matsqui Prairie and Sumas Prairie DDI areas support the storm drainage area such as review drainagerelated development applications and capital budgeting manage studies and special drainage projects to minimize flooding and provide erosion protection and planning infrastructure needs to support irrigation in the DDI areas. You will review design standards and requirements for development projects participate in stakeholder meetings and support the development of flood mitigation plans draft and issue requests for proposals (RFPs) for various engineering studies and designs and administer contract agreements between the City and various consultants. Additionally you will prepare reports for Senior Engineering Staff and Council and provide engineering support to the Operations team and technical support to the team as needed and engage with the public to provide information on drainagerelated matters.

As the ideal candidate you will have the following:

  • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering or a related technical discipline

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Experience in capital planning and budgeting

  • Registration or eligibility to register as an EngineerInTraining or Professional Engineer in British Columbia

  • At least five 5 years of progressive related experience in storm rainwater and/or sanitary infrastructure planning and/or design in consulting or municipal government or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.
