Job Description
The University of Hartford Cinema program in the School of Communication invites applications for Assistant Professor in film/video production beginning Fall 2025. Cinema is a humanities BA program with tracks in film/video production and cinema studies. Consideration of applications will begin January 10 2025 and continue until the position is filled. Responsibilities
The successful candidate will teach a variety of undergraduate courses in film/video production with a teaching load of three courses per semester. An active s cholarly/research/artistic agenda with peerreviewed publications presentations performances or other accomplishments in Cinema are expected for successful tenure and promotion. Service to the department college and university will include advising students in the Cinema program. There will also be opportunities to teach in our innovative University Interdisciplinary Studies program. Applicants should describe in their letter of intent how their creative work scholarship and/or teaching contributes to diverse communities. The Cinema program is committed to providing education in filmmaking to a broad diversity of students. We hope to contribute to the education of a new generation of filmmakers whose work represents a much broader range of perspectives than in the past. We are better able to educate these aspiring filmmakers if they have faculty guiding them that come from similarly diverse backgrounds.

Required Qualifications
Required qualifications MFA or PhD in a filmrelated field those in the process of completing their dissertations or theses will be considered if they clearly articulate and verify an anticipated completion date. Preferred qualifications Collegelevel teaching experience in cinema production and/or film studies. Knowledgeable about technology and software used in film and video production and able to incorporate this into production courses in a manner that help students become proficient in the abilities necessary to succeed in these production fields. Ability to create new courses in Cinema. Ability to work with students in film and video student clubs and create new student groups. Ability to enhance the diversity of those working in film and videorelated professions and be able to address issues related to the representation of diverse communities in film and video. Engagement in creative work and/or scholarship leading to peerreviewed films in such venues as film festivals and/or publication and show potential to do so. Potential for service to the School College of Arts and Sciences and University. Potential for successful student advising. Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in the School of Communication and in other programs. Ability to recruit new students through event participation and promotion of the program.
