This is a temporary role based in our Mississauga Lab. The working schedule for this role is Tuesday to Saturday with shifts from 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM Tuesday to Friday and from 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM on Saturday. The hourly rate for this role is $20.08.
PURPOSE OF JOB:
The Parasitology Laboratory Aide is responsible for the collection identification verification processing and preparing of fecal samples.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential function. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required. Collect fecal specimens from login scan into loads and prepare for set up.
Set up para loads at a rate of 75/hour and Fcombo set up at a rate of 65/hour.
Accurately label processing tubes when building loads.
Split specimens for Giardia ELISA when required.
Find missing specimens. Print and reconcile queue list.
Maintain organization of storage refrigerator.
Dispose of old fecal specimens.
Library all samples.
Maintain all equipment including hoods centrifuges etc.
Knowledge of lab equipment and procedures.
Awareness of quality control and calibration.
Crosstrain and develop knowledge of multiple specialties within department/lab.
Applies job skills and lab policies and procedures to complete a variety of tasks.
Reads understands and follows applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) including safety and quality procedures. Maintains clean and organized work area. Restocks supplies as needed.
Participates in improving lab efficiency quality and cooperation.
Consult with senior peers on noncomplex Parasitology tasks to learn through experience.
Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent prior/some lab experience preferred and/or 2 3 or 4 year degree in Sciencerelated field.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Laboratory skills with experience setting up running and operating lab instruments preferred but not required.
Knowledge of medical and laboratory terminology and Parasitology procedures and equipment helpful.
General science background
Attention to detail
Organized with ability to multitask in a fast paced environment
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Communication skills both verbal and written
Positive cando attitude
Personal computer skills including strong typing ability and proficient use of Microsoft Office
