Job Description Summary:

To perform incoming and outgoing boat inspections as well as decontaminations and educate patrons about the Boulder Reservoir ANS program protocols and procedures.

Job Description:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain Colorado Watercraft inspector and decontamination certification.

  • Administer all protocols associated with the Boulder Reservoir Aquatic Nuisance species program.

  • Perform inspections on all watercraft entering the Boulder Reservoir.

  • Enter inspections into our internal software and into the State database.

  • Educate Boulder Reservoir visitors on rules of facility and on current ANS protocol.

  • Distribute printed educational materials to visitors.

  • Communicate to park visitors of recreational opportunities and public use regulations.

  • Greet a wide variety of park visitors in a friendly welcoming and helpful manner and communicates effectively with a wide diversity of individuals and groups.

  • Answer phones and email inquiries provide information about our policies.

  • Maintain knowledge of facility emergency response protocols and their role in those responses

  • Act with limited supervision and exercises considerable independent judgment while prioritizing tasks responding to emergencies and interacting with staff and the public.

  • Actively monitors radio transmissions and responds in a clear and concise manner.

  • Delivers prompt and professional solutions to staff and public interactions.

  • Handles complaints and criticism with grace elevating problems and concerns to reservoir management as appropriate.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be at least 16 years old.

  • Have and maintain acceptable background information including criminal history.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certified by the State Department of Parks and Wildlife as a Stage 1 Boat Inspector for the ANS prevention program.

  • Proficiency in Active Net software and other Reservoir software.

  • Experience with use of tools and outdoor equipment.

  • Effective and efficient radio communication and park emergency procedures.

  • Knowledge of recreational watercraft

  • Spanish language proficiency

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Successful completion of the Aquatic Nuisance Species training program and exam within 2 weeks of hire

Supervision Received: Recreation Program Supervisor

Supervision Exercised: None

WORKING CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to perform a wide range of strenuous physical and manual tasks in an outdoor environment with variable weather conditions. Physical ability to stand walk and kneel; hand/eye coordination to operate personal computer and office equipment; vision for reading recording and interpreting information; speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and the public.

  • Works in both indoor and outdoor environments that are oftentimes impacted weather and at times unpredictable conditions.

  • Display the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and competently operate machinery.

  • Adaptability to work under stressful situations and shifting priorities.

  • Ability and willingness to work irregular hours weekends evenings holidays and/or emergencies
