Job Description

Description
The Advocate Coordinator plays a leadership role in planning and implementing staff training focused on mental emotional social and spiritual health (MESSH) while supervising Advocate Counselors and supporting them with camperspecific programming and accommodations. They provide daily checkins and coaching conduct observational evaluations and assist in creating small group wellness and socialemotional learning programs. In collaboration with the Camp Social Worker the Coordinator serves as a resource to both staff and campers ensuring that environments promote thriving and inclusion. Additionally they manage communication about camper needs support Advocate Counselors in building relationships with parents and participate actively in staff and supervisor training.
Dates and Hours
Training: Week of May 26 & Week of June 2
Camp: June 9 August 8 generally from 8:453:45
Regular Job Duties
  • Playing a leadership role in the planning and implementation of staff training and ongoing staff learning related to mental emotional social and spiritual health (MESSH)
  • Supervise Advocate Counselors and support them with daily informal checkins and provide camperspecific programming scaffolding and accommodations
  • Actively promote allcamp inclusion initiatives and reinforce these expectations
  • Provide daily informal checkins and coaching with Advocate Counselors
  • Perform two (first half and second half) summer observations for each Advocate Counselor and conduct debriefs that include skill assessment and goal setting
  • Creating and implementing programming for small groups of campers focused on wellness and socialemotional learning
  • Hold and participate in meetings between guardians and Advocate Counselors prior to and throughout the summer
  • Meet with other supervisors as needed to gain further insight on specific campers
  • Communicating specific camper needs and managing relationships with parents/caregivers of campers with Advocate Counselors with the support of the ACD and CD
  • Additional responsibilities as required
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of 18 years old
  • Secondary education and training in the mental health field such as:
    • Social Work
    • Mental Health Counseling
    • Psychology
    • Youth Psychiatry
    • Family Therapy
  • Prior camp experience in working with young children is preferred
  • Exceptional skill and capacity for engagement and relationship building with both children and their parents.
  • Proven ability to provide emotional support and patience to a wide range of ages.
  • Strong ability to problemsolve provide accommodations and pivot plans based on the needs of individual campers
  • Effectively communicate strategies expectations and constructive feedback to staff
  • Be a leader selfstarter and strong collaborator.
  • Ability to accept guidance constructive feedback and support from teammates.
  • Ability to sit stand kneel and stretch for long periods of time
  • Ability to work outside in high degree temperatures
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
