The Role
Do you relish the pace of daily news Do you have the skills to expertly turn around an explainer on the days mustread topic Can you easily switch focus to a carefully crafted long read on the weeks biggest story Do you understand how a deft touch with tone language and story structure are vital in reaching specific audiences Were looking for experienced news writers who can help us to respond quickly to the days biggest stories from around Australia and across the world to generate engaging useful and accessible news content for the ABC News website and app.
This is an outstanding opportunity to join ABC News Digitals national team. Working to our commissioning editor you will be part of a team of writers charged with making sure we respond fast to the stories of greatest interest to our digital audiences. You will work alongside digital specialists in mobile content formats social media vertical video and visual storytelling methods. Each day may bring a different focus for your writing so youll need to be adaptable and able to use your experience to deliver great writing and exclusive angles at speed. You will be brimming with ideas on what people want to read and up for the challenge to:
- Deliver accurate and thoughtprovoking digital journalism linked to issues of key interest to ABC News audiences.
- Pitch original and exclusive story angles research write and produce news stories features explainers and live blogs linked to the biggest topics of the day.
- Monitor and interpret audience trends on thirdparty platforms and interrogate analytics to create a deeper understanding of audience behaviours.
- Maintain a network of community and expert contacts to aid your reporting and to support the work of colleagues.

About You
You will have experience in journalism and digital news publishing systems as well as the ability to write accurate and concise copy and produce engaging digitalfirst content. You will also be able to demonstrate strong awareness of digital media technologies and platforms.
Youre an exceptional communicator with the ability to work as part of a team leading by example and working to tight deadlines.
