Job Description

Senior Department Systems Engineering Manager

Boeings Space Mission Systems (SMS) Systems Engineering Integration & Test (SEIT) Capability is seeking a Senior Department Systems Engineering Manager to provide daytoday leadership for a functional organization with 100 staff performing spacecraft subsystems engineering in El Segundo CA. This Department Manager will be responsible for setting the strategy and vision and developing implementation plans to provide the people processes and tools to execute system engineering work scope for our El Segundo spacecraft business.

The ideal candidate will have a background in at least one spacecraft subsystem as a technical lead and prior experience leading a highly skilled engineering workforce. This candidate will need to be an open and inclusive leader partnering with other department managers in SEIT other engineering capabilities and program leadership.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Manages employees and midlevel managers performing engineering and technical activities in the area of Systems Engineering.
  • Develops and executes integrated organizational plans policies and procedures and guides the development of business and technical strategies goals objectives.
  • Acquires resources for organizational activities provides technical management of suppliers and leads process improvements.
  • Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with customers stakeholders peers partners and direct reports.
  • Provides oversight and approval of technical approaches products and processes.
  • Manages develops and motivates employees and midlevel managers.
  • The ideal candidate will excel in both the engineering technical acumen/excellence required for this role while being an engaging and motivating people leader including committing to:

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology) chemistry physics mathematics data science or computer science.
  • 5 years of experience leading or managing an engineering project or team.
  • Satellite ground/spacecraft systems experience.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience as a Capability manager within the Space Intelligence & Weapons Systems (SI&WS) Engineering organization.
  • Experience across the entire lifecycle of spacecraft system development.
  • Excellent communications skills verbal and written.
  • Ability to effectively communicate at all levels of management customers and partners.
  • Previous management experience.
  • Ability to build a safe environment of inclusion transparency and trust.
  • Leadership skills to lead and influence positive outcomes.
  • Previous experience in leading mentoring and engaging individuals and teams.
  • Experience providing active mentorship and career guidance.
  • Can uplevel existing team by hiring high performance talent growing leaders and helping underperforming members.
  • Can gain trust of team and provide guidance for their careers.
