About the unit

Big Rapids Campus has a 22 bed medical surgical unit and a 4 bed critical care unit. This campus is the perfect place to gain experience as a new nurse and grow your career! The patient population in Big Rapids is very diverse it consists of primarily hospitalist medicine patients with a wide variety of diagnosis some of which include: pneumonia COPD cellulitis kidney failure and bowel obstructions. These diagnoses provide the opportunity to develop acute care skills such as IV placement chest tubes and NG placement/management. In our critical care unit it is common to see high acuity patients with sepsis hyperglycemia and respiratory failure whose plan of care would include managing medication drips (insulin vasopressors etc. and the utilization of equipment such as ventilators and BIPAPs. Big Rapids has a wellestablished team that works collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team that includes hospitalists care managers social workers pharmacy nurse techs physical therapists and occupational therapists to provide quality care for our patients. We have a good mix of experienced RNs that work alongside our education team to provide our new hires and grads with a great onboarding experience. For scheduling we currently have a six week rotating core so you are able to determine ahead of time when to schedule appointments etc. to maintain a good work life balance.

Scope of work

Delivers nursing care responsibly and accountably as described professionally by the American Nurses Association (ANA) and legally by the State of Michigan. Demonstrates competency through the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. This includes assessment diagnosis outcomes identification planning implementation and evaluation. Upholds the standards of professional performance as described by the ANA. This includes ethical practice culturally congruent practice communication collaboration leadership education evidencebased practice and research quality of practice professional practice evaluation resource utilization and environmental health. Strives to achieve optimal outcomes.
