What We Want
The Department of Residence Life seeks studentcentered passionate and growthminded professionals to develop student leaders. This role involves working directly with students to enhance their skills knowledge and organizations. You will collaborate with others to develop student organization initiatives improve training and enhance the impact on students in Residence Life. The Student Development Specialist (SDS) II advises the Dan Mizer Chapter of the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) and the Residence Hall Staff Council (RHSC) supporting student leadership and development across the department. This position also oversees training and development related to student advising and leadership training.

This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
Salary: $51750 annual $3000 in Professional Development Funds (pending budget approval)

Responsibilities
Advising and Student Development:
Serve as the daytoday advisor for the National Residence Hall Honorary.
Serve as the daytoday advisor for the Residence Hall Staff Council.
Plan and Execute of Fall/Spring Student Leader Training ensuring that student leaders are wellprepared for the academic year.
Oversee practicum experiences for student leaders (for summer) and graduate students offering handson development opportunities.
Develop and facilitate the Residential Leadership (ResLead) Hullabaloo U sections in collaboration with departmental staff ensuring the curriculum meets learning objectives.
Support student organizations through conference travel at state regional and national student leadership conferences.
Administration and Leadership:
Coordinate purchasing needs for the leadership area as needed.
Maintain student organization manuals and training materials ensuring that resources are uptodate and accessible.
Create and facilitate advising development tailored specifically for livein staff supporting their engagement with student organizations.
Maintain student organization membership requirements and ensure student leaders are appropriately registered and recognized within the StarRez system.
Oversee leadership and advising assessment needs collaborating with relevant stakeholders to ensure that leadership initiatives are meeting departmental expectations and student needs.
Track completion of advisor expectations throughout the academic year.
Communication and Collaboration:
Serve as the point of contact for Leadership and Advisor Training with the departmental Training and Development Manager.
Serve as the liaison for the Leadership Exchange facilitating collaboration and student involvement.
Serve on department division and university committees at the discretion of the Executive Director.
Support departmental summer operations as needed.
Support DRL through student engagement on digital platforms such as Zeemee etc.
Assist with and participate in DepartmentWide events as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Education & Experience:
Bachelors degree.
At least 1 year of experience in student affairs work or related specialty.
No experience required with a masters degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree in student affairs counseling higher education or related field.
Experience working with on campus college students.
Prior experience working with or within a livein staff role (Resident Advisor Graduate Hall Director Hall Director etc.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
Strong organization skills.
Strong administrative skills.
Masters degree in higher education leadership counseling or related field.
Prior experience in student leadership advising or development initiatives.
Experience with curriculum or course development.
Experience advising student groups using personality tests or inventories for training and experience training others in areas of advising or student leadership.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work outdoors exposed to various weather conditions potential allergens elevated noise levels and heat.
Ability to move light medium or heavy objects with assistance.
Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving and/or flying on commercial airlines.
Ability to climb stairs see use a video display terminal talk and hear travel from building to building.
