As an Airport Maintenance Specialist 2you will perform avariety of tasks related to the upkeep and maintenance of groundside andairside operations. Winter season can includestandby time after hours callouts shift work and varying hours of operations.
The Airport Maintenance Specialist 2is a union positionreporting to the Airport Maintenance Supervisor and will normally work a40hour work week. Some afterhours emergency support and regular scheduledmaintenance may be required.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate will have:
Education& Experience
Completion of Grade 12
Minimum two years relatedexperience with snow removal and grounds maintenance using heavy equipment
BC Class 3 Drivers license withair brakes endorsement is required
Knowledge of safe operation oftools and heavyduty equipment
Knowledge of pavement maintenancerequirements and inspection procedures
Proficiency in the Englishlanguage both spoken and written
Must have basic computer skillsand knowledge of commonly used software programs
Within three 3 months of hirethe Airport Maintenance Specialist 2 must obtain and maintain the appropriatelevel of Airport Security Clearance (RAIC)** as well as the followingcertifications:
oAirside Vehicle Operator Permit(AVOP D/A)
oRadio Operators Certificate Aeronautical
oWHMIS certification
oTransportation of dangerous goods
Within six 6 months of hire theAirport Maintenance Specialist 2 must obtain the following certifications:
oAirside Vehicle Operator Permit(AVOP D)
oFirearms Possession andAcquisition License (PAL)
oForklift Operators Certificate
Skills and abilities:
The Airport Maintenance Specialist 2 must also possess and/ordemonstrate:
Excellent customer service andinterpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively both orallyand written with internal and external customers
Ability to be tactful demonstrateexcellent judgment and work as a positive and collaborative team member at alltimes
Organized and the ability to workunder deadlines with conflicting demands
Basic computer skills and theability to use a wide variety of software packages
Enthusiastic energetic aselfstarter and the ability to work independently
Fully qualified to operate heavyduty equipment and tools
Above average mechanical aptitude
Aptitude and willingness to learnnew technology
Personal suitability to work inemergency hazardous (i.e. confined space heights) or inclement weathersituations
Ability to work long periods oftime doing physical labour and lift over 40 pounds on occasion
VAA is part ofthe federally regulated air transportation sector and employees must abide byany potential future federally mandated health measures (e.g. COVID19vaccination/booster shots).
