Job Description:

The Biomedical Science team at Pulse is currently recruiting a Band 6 Biomedical Scientist in Microbiology to work in a busy hospital in Basildon. We are looking for a Biomedical Scientist who can make a real difference in supporting the laboratorys Microbiology service. You should share our passion and drive to ensure that our patients receive quality and compassionate care and work with us to ensure the Trust continues its journey towards great people great place.

What will you be doing in this Biomedical Scientist role

As a Biomedical Scientist in Microbiology you will have experience in reading cultures identifying significant pathogens and performing susceptibility testing. You will also support senior biomedical scientists in delivering the service and provide guidance to junior members of staff. Additionally you will participate in quality assurance and control processes contribute to method development and assist in troubleshooting any issues related to microbiological testing. You will maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations while actively participating in departmental meetings and training programs.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine and specialized microbiological tests including bacterial identification and antibiotic susceptibility testing.
  • Conduct and interpret quality control tests to ensure the accuracy of laboratory results.
  • Collaborate with clinical teams to provide timely and relevant microbiological information for patient management.
  • Assist in the implementation of new procedures and technologies within the laboratory.
  • Participate in training and education programs for staff and students.
  • Ensure that laboratory protocols are followed and contribute to the maintenance of a safe working environment.
  • Engage in research and development initiatives to enhance laboratory services.

Essential Requirements for this Biomedical Scientist position:

  • HCPC registration.
  • Qualification in Biomedical Science (e.g. BSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent).
  • Experience in Microbiology within the NHS or private sector in the UK.
  • Experience in bacteriology and the ability to work core hours.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex results.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
