Position Announcement
Summer Head Resident Assistant for Upward Bound Program
Independence Community College (ICC) seeks application for a Summer Head Resident Assistant for the Upward Bound Program position. Upward Bound is funded 100 by the U.S. Department of Education.
Position Summary
The Head Resident Assistant (Head RA) lives in the residence hall with the Upward Bound participants (local high school students) and report to all Upward Bound staff. This is a seasonal overnight position beginning Monday May 19th and ending Thursday June 26th. Housing and meals costs for the Head RA are covered by the Upward Bound program while they are working on campus. The Head RA provides support to the RAs and Activities Assistant (AA) assists them in coordinating all housingrelated happenings serves as a positive role model handles emergencies that may arise while fulltime UB Staff are off campus etc. The Head Resident Assistant is not required to attend the endofprogram trip.
Compensation
$3000 less taxes
Qualifications
Bachelors degree preferred but will consider current degreeseeking students with their Associate degree and at least two years oncampus housing experience
Must have a valid drivers license
Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
Must demonstrate a sensitivity to and strong interest working with educationally and economically disadvantaged students
Prefer a grade point average of 3.0 or above
Prefer a person with background similar to that of target population
Primary Responsibilities
Attend resident assistant training in person on 05/1905/22 and regular staff meeting during the summer program as scheduled
Reside in the residence hall and respond to emergencies as necessary. The Head RA will move into the dorms before the students do (move in date TBD). Final checkout is after everything is cleaned up and put away and the last student leaves on 06/26
Coordinate weekly checkin and checkout procedures
Take part in weekly rotation of night supervision
Ensures students are awake and escorts them to breakfast each morning
Takes attendance and ensures students are where they are supposed to be throughout the day
Maintain and enforce curfews and conduct room checks as needed
Monitor dinner and additional meals if necessary
Follow and enforce ICC and Upward Bound policies and procedures
Supervise and engage with participants
Provides additional support and leadership to the RAs and AA. Work closely with the RAs Upward Bound staff and AA to execute and supervise all recreational educational and cultural activities
Travel with Upward Bound staff and participants and transport participants to and from appointments and activities as needed
Maintain accurate documentation
Serve as a positive role model for all Upward Bound participants
Perform other duties as assigned

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the Head Summer Resident Assistant for the Upward Bound Program position. Position generally requires light work with occasional lifting of up to 30 pounds or more carrying supplies equipment
This position requires the ability to sit or stand or walk for extended and various periods of time. It also requires constant hand grasp and finger dexterity; extended standing walking and repetitive leg and arm movements; occasional bending; reaching forward sidetoside downward and overhead; and squatting and kneeling
The ability to effectively learn new computer programs and applications as necessary; the ability to effectively troubleshoot changing computer software issues
The ability to communicate clearly with small or large groups of people with an excellent comprehension of the English language is essential
Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor settings
Provide own transportation to and from campus and appropriate licensing to operate college vehicles
Provide own cell phone and calling plan

Compensation: $3000.00 per year

Independence Community College (ICC)is a twoyear educational institution accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. It was established in 1925 as grades 13 and 14 of the Independencepublic school system. In 1967 Independence Community College legally separated from the school district. Construction of the new community college on a 68 acre campus formerly the Independence Country Club began in 1969. Classes at the new site began in September 1970. ICC campus is now home to the Academic Building Fine Arts Building Student Union Cessna Learning Center Field House Administration BuildingWilliam Inge Center for the Artsfitness center athletic practice fields disc golf course 96bed multistructure living complex and a 200 bedresidence hall.

By renovating a donated building in 2010 we expanded our college to include ICC West 2615 West Main Street). This campus is located on the west side of Independence and is home to our technical programs: Allied Health Cosmetology and GED/ABE.Additional renovations were completed in 2012 to accomodate our newest program Veterinary Technology. This stateoftheart facility includes animal wards a classroom lab surgery pharmacy prep roomsmall animal treatment food prep grooming and radiology.

ICC also maintains presence downtown through the ICC Foundation office and by partnering with the Independence Business Resource Center.

Currently our educational and support programming includes 35programs of studyfor Associates of Arts and/or Science degrees 11programs of study for Certificate completionStudent Support ServicesUpward Bound mens and womens athletic programs and a variety ofcampus organizations and activities.
