Job Description:
The Aerojet Rocketdyne Business Segment of L3Harris is seeking a Materials Engineer Intern to join our Huntsville Alabama facility.This position will work in the Advanced Manufacturing Facilitys (AMF) Materials and Process Engineering Laboratory and will be responsible for supporting the labs functions of conducting tests to support material acceptance testing material shelflife extension testing and inert materials characterization. This position will also aid in laboratory operations such as 5S1 workflow maximization and equipment management. This position will report to the Materials and Processes Engineering AMF Laboratory Manager in Huntsville AL.
Essential Functions:
- Test nonmetallic materials using a variety of measurement instruments and equipment such as balances universal testing machines ovens hotplates hydraulic presses thermal testing equipment and SEM.
- Fabricate cure and inspect nonmetallic materials test panels as needed utilizing equipment such as ovens caul plates hydraulic presses and autoclaves.
- Assist chemists with general wet chemistry processes.
- Conduct testing according to ASTM/MIL/ISO etc standards standard work documents and custom work requests.
- Measure specific properties and record the data performing calculations to generate a report according to material specification requirements.
- Assist investigations in production and development programs suggesting specific relevant testing and carefully presenting the extent of information gained.
- Assist in optimization of new laboratory set up.
- Communicate with members from other teams and departments to facilitate work and assist with enterprise test efforts.
- Maintain laboratory readiness and cleanliness through 5S1 kitting and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Pursuing a Bachelors degree in Materials Engineering Mechanical Engineering Chemical Engineering or appropriate discipline with some experience working in a laboratory environment
Preferred Additional Skills:
- 3.2 GPA or above
- Basic knowledge of polymeric materials
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Software applications (Excel Word PowerPoint)
