Under supervision of the San Francisco Fire Department (SFFD) Neighborhood Emergency Response Team (NERT) Program Coordinator the Volunteer/Outreach Coordinator performs entry level planning work in the collection analysis interpretation and presentation of local volunteer emergency preparation and response planning data. The essential functions of this job include: managing and updating volunteer registration and training data maintenance reviewing and recording appropriate data and preparing recommendations; reviewing planning activities goals programs grant guidelines rules regulations policies and procedures; providing information orally and in writing to the SFFD partner organizations and the general public; preparing computer based and hard copy graphic materials; managing office and coordinating clerical and technical support activities; provide direct services to potential and current volunteers; may assist in the training to ready a team of volunteers for deployment at the discretion of the Program Coordinator. Under direction the position collaborates with staff faculty and administrators to strategically plan a variety of outreach programs services and enrollment activities related to enhancing the NERT program retention and community partnerships. A flexible work schedule including evening and weekend hours is mandatory. Public contact is extensive and includes staff volunteers community organizations businesses and the general public. Supervise assigned staff interns and volunteers.
Essential duties and functions include but are not limited to the following:
1. Manages and updates SFFD volunteer registration and training data; Maintains schedules timesheets files and records for volunteers.
2. Assists in the compilation of data in support of Grant projects and activities to ensure milestones are being tracked and met.
3. Provides information orally and in writing to city agencies partner organizations community organizations and the general public by answering questions providing assistance responding to complaints presenting reports and draft plans; and explaining policies.
4. Works in coordination with the SFFD to recruit volunteers support and promote volunteer activities in the NERT as well as the Disaster Corps Programs. This may require assisting with activities that take place in the evening or on weekends.
5. Assists in the Preparation of computer based and hard copy graphic materials: strategic reports gap analysis drawings diagrams graphs charts photographs video and other display materials related to analysis and reports. Develops produces and distributes newsletters information flyers and other written material including use of desktop publishing software and is responsible for updating information on department/program websites.
6. May assist with activities related to managing volunteers at the Emergency Operations Center level in a disaster setting.
7. At the discretion of the SFFD appropriately use and deploy Disaster Corps volunteers upon request and in accordance with the Standardized Emergency Management System the National Incident Management System and Californias Master Mutual Aid Agreement to support preparedness recovery and mitigation efforts. This position may be deployed in a supervisory role.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
1. Knowledge of basic planning and research principles as they relate to planning and coordinating volunteer emergency response activities.
2. Ability to: anticipate identify and analyze disaster and emergency planning issues; prepare reports memos letters etc.; explain complex ideas clearly and concisely to department personnel the general public partner agencies and other governmental agency representatives; Gather compile analyze data and prepare reports using database programs spreadsheets various word processing applications and statistical techniques to conduct needs assessments evaluation reports compile and analyze statistical data and prepare reports for student learning outcome program evaluation; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with department personnel other city departments public officials and the general public.
Qualifications :
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university; AND
2. One year 2000 hours) of experience supervising coordinating or directing volunteer services and/or community outreach which provides services to the public; AND
3. Possession of a current valid California Driver License; AND
4. Ability to drive to offsite locations on an asneeded basis; AND
5. Ability to lift 30 lbs.
Substitution: Additional experience supervising coordinating or directing volunteer and/or community relations services as described above may be substituted for up to two years of the required baccalaureate degree on a yearforyear basis.

Screening of Applications: Application will be screened for relevant qualifying experience and education. Only those candidates deemed best qualified will continue in the selection process. Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement in the selection process.
Oral/Performance Examination: Applicants deemed best qualified will be invited to participate in the remaining selection procedures. Applicants will be tested to determine their relative knowledge skill and ability levels in jobrelated areas. These may include but are not limited to: Oral and written communication ability.
