You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailThe City of Mission is seeking a motivated and skilled individual to fill the role of Labourer 2 in our Utilities team. This fulltime position involves a variety of skilled and semiskilled construction maintenance and repair tasks within the utilities division. Distinguished by its complexity and the independence required compared to the Labourer 1 position this role is crucial in ensuring efficient and safe operations of our utility infrastructure. Occasionally the selected candidate may also supervise or guide other workers.
In this role you will be responsible for executing skilled and semiskilled tasks associated with underground utility installation and repair. This includes but not limited to installing house connections risers and sewer mains as well as building valve chambers manholes and catch basins. Tasks also involve conducting leak detection assisting in water main repairs maintaining fire hydrants and installing water mains and fittings. Operating vehicles up to one tonne to transport construction materials will also be a key part of the role alongside ensuring safety and compliance with municipal standards preparing Traffic Control Plans and acting as a flag person when needed. You will also maintain detailed records of fieldwork and provide manual labor assistance as required.
Qualifications :
Candidates should have high school graduation or equivalent education supplemented with relevant coursework. Significant experience in general construction and maintenance is required with prior supervisory experience considered an asset. Proficiency in the use of hand and power tools and a thorough understanding of construction materials and methods are essential. Applicants must have a valid Class 5 BC Drivers License though a Class 3 with air endorsement is preferred alongside Occupational First Aid Level 1 and Traffic Control Certification.
The ideal candidate will exhibit strong independent work capabilities sound judgment in construction/maintenance operations and effective verbal and written communication skills. Physical capability to perform essential job duties and the ability to maintain good public relations and community interaction are necessary.
Additional Information :
The 2025 hourly rate of pay is $34.31 per hour plus a comprehensive benefits package including the Municipal Pension Plan. This position works a 4day work week. The schedule is Tuesday to Friday from 7:30am to 5:00pm.
