The Cyber Threat and Vulnerability Management Section (CVT) within DFATs Information Management and Technology Division has a requirement for a Cyber Vulnerability Analyst to augment its existing team of resources.

Key duties and responsibilities:

CVT will require the Cyber Vulnerability Analyst to produce strategic operational & tactical intelligence about cyber threat and vulnerabilities for consumption by the Chief Information Security Officer and Cyber Security Cloud and Networks Branch. DFAT s operations introduce unique threats and unique vulnerability management challenges. As a Vulnerability Analyst in CVT you ll be responsible for identifying cyber vulnerabilities that exist within the DFAT environment. You ll work in lock step with CVT s cyber threat intelligence team to conduct analysis and enriched intelligence about the vulnerabilities and the risk they pose to the department. Using your strong technical expertise and knowledge of vulnerability management you ll work with technical stakeholders and system owners to find and prioritise ways to remediate these risks. The work you do will help to minimise the department s cyberattack surface strengthen defensive capabilities and ultimately protect one of the Australian Government s most targeted internetconnected networks.

Technical skills:

Experience with vulnerability and attack surface scanning tools such as Tenable and other cyber security tools including SIEMs.

About the team:

The Cyber Security Cloud and Networks Branch (CRB) led by DFAT s Chief Information Security Officer is responsible for protecting the department s computer network from cyber threats. The Cyber Threat and Vulnerability Management Section s (CVT) mission is to deliver cyber threat intelligence as well as cyber vulnerability management to support DFAT s cyber defensive capabilities. Our team identifies and tracks the cyber threats to DFAT and leverage that information to prioritise remediation of vulnerabilities to counter the capabilities of those who might seek to target the department s network.


Addressing Selection Criteria:

Please write a 1page pitch style statement of suitability against Essential and Desirable Selection Criteria.

Please write in 3rd person demonstrating your skills knowledge and experience examples should utilise the S.T.A.R. method. No more than 5000 Characters including spaces.

Essential Criteria:

1. Previous experience in cyber vulnerability management preferably in a large organisation with a complex ICT environment.

2. Analytical and inquisitive mindset. Ability to analyse large complex and disparate datasets to extrapolate information about technological vulnerabilities using that information to conduct a risk assessment specific to the vulnerability as it exists within an ICT environment.

3. Strong written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical concepts in a concise manner to audiences with varied levels of technical expertise. This includes writing vulnerability assessment reports and liaising with stakeholders to prioritise vulnerability remediation.

4. Minimum active Negative Vetting 1 (NV1 security clearance.

Desirable Criteria:

Previous experience working in or alongside cyber threat intelligence functions including conducting threat modelling and contributing to red team exercises.

Past federal or state government experience.




Essential criteria 1. A track record of delivering technology products in large organisations 2. A demonstrated understanding of what makes for a great developer experience for external users 3. Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams that follow agile and user-centred design practices 4. Experience working on large Government transformation programs highly regarded Desirable criteria 1. Knowledge, experience of, and relationships with the agriculture technology industry 2. Delivery of technology to support regulatory decision-making processes 3. Experience delivering to the Australian Government Digital Service Standard
