Job Summary
Brackenberry is seeking a proactive and compassionate Housing Solutions Service Assessment and Prevention Officer to support individuals and households at risk of homelessness. You will play a key role in assessing housing needs developing personalised plans and working with internal and external partners to secure sustainable housing solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Homelessness Prevention & Assessment
- Conduct detailed homelessness assessments in line with the Housing Act 1996 and Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
- Develop tailored housing plans to prevent or relieve homelessness.
- Investigate homelessness status applying statutory tests for eligibility and priority need.
- Regularly review and monitor housing plan progress issuing relevant notices when necessary.
Legal Compliance & Case Management
- Make statutory decisions on homelessness applications ensuring compliance with legislation and case law.
- Draft clear wellstructured decision letters aligned with legal requirements.
- Maintain and manage a diverse caseload ensuring timely decisions and interventions.
- Collaborate with landlords registered providers and external agencies to prevent homelessness.
Safeguarding & Support
- Identify and refer individuals requiring additional support services including those covered under the Care Act 2014 and Children Act 1989.
- Take appropriate safeguarding actions for vulnerable individuals and families.
Operational & Administrative Duties
- Maintain accurate records in compliance with GDPR and performance reporting requirements.
- Participate in training to stay updated on legislative changes and best practices.
- Provide outreach support including emergency assessments under the Housing Act 1996.
Requirements
Essential
- Level 3 qualification (or equivalent experience) in housing social work or a related field.
- Experience in homelessness prevention case management and statutory decisionmaking.
- Strong knowledge of homelessness legislation safeguarding procedures and support services.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fastpaced environment while managing a complex caseload.
Desirable
- Training in mental health awareness domestic abuse support or substance misuse.
- Knowledge of landlord and tenant law welfare benefits and social services legislation.
- Experience drafting statutory decision letters.
- IT proficiency including database management and case recording systems.
