An Environmental Specialist job is available with the City of Fort Worth Water Department Plant Operations Division. Plant Operations is responsible for the Biosolids Drying Facility five Water Treatment Plants one Wastewater Treatment Plant and multiple lift stations tanks pump stations and large meters for the City of Fort Worth as well as customer cities.
The position will be responsible for sampling monitoring inspections surveys and investigations associated with the Biosolids Drying Facility. They will assist with verifying compliance with state and federal wastewater regulations and act as liaison with the Water Laboratory.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in biology chemistry or environmental sciences.
- Valid Texas drivers license.
- Must pass Drug Screen and Physical.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Biosolids processing
- Water/wastewater plant or field environment
- PFAS regulatory experience
The Environmental Specialist job responsibilities include:
- Inspects and surveys facilities and collects data and samples.
- Performs appropriate calculations and documentation to complete reports and maintain records.
- Evaluates results with regard to compliance with applicable regulations.
- Maintains and calibrates equipment and supplies related to job duties.
- Monitor wastewater processes daily such as MLSS ammonia iron and nitrate.

Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts odors dusts poor ventilation chemicals oils extreme temperatures inadequate lighting intense noises gases vibrations unsanitary conditions workspace restrictions and the ability to maintain a professional demeanor even when dealing with upset customers/citizens.
Physical Demand
Medium work Depending on assignment positions in this class typically exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
