Job Description

*This is an hourly overtimeeligible position.*


The Education Specialist develops organizes and implements educational programming including assisting with volunteers and participating and planning educational events.

Essential Functions (Including but not limited to):

  • Conducts all activities in alignment with principles and integrity of Gathering Place.
  • Develop and lead in a handson way education programs and curricula for all ages with a primary audience of youth and families. Programs will focus on conservation recreation sustainability natural and environmental sciences etc.
  • Assist with the coordination and implementation of field trips.
  • Research recommend and secure vendors and performers for Education Programming.
  • Create and follow event and program timelines schedules and plans. Be the onsite manager for education events and programs.
  • Ensure volunteers are prepared to assist with or lead programs. Plan and lead group volunteer training and events as needed.
  • Cultivates and retains partnerships.
  • Provides input and assistance for community outreach initiatives.
  • Help to prepare and meet annual and longrange program goals and objectives.
  • Communicate regularly with teachers librarians and school administrators in the region about opportunities scheduling and planning to ensure accessibility and success of programming.
  • Participate in staff meetings and trainings as required.
  • Follow all policies and evaluative measures for educational workshops classes and camps.
  • Promotes a positive work environment and treats program participants fairly and equally regardless of circumstances or abilities.
  • Collect and report out on program data.
  • Research into program improvements and new cuttingedge ideas.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • You will be available to work weekends holidays and nontraditional hours as dictated by the needs of the park
  • Maintain a professional appearance that meets Gathering Place grooming standards.


Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in art music education or a related field of study.
  • Three years related informal education experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills and Experience:

  • Must be comfortable working outdoors in all elements.
  • Must be able to be on your feet for a long period of time.
  • Must have experience planning and managing events and programs.
  • Must be able to work evenings weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Must have a proven track record of engagement with schoolaged children.
  • Must have ability to work with both adult and teen volunteers.
  • Must be familiar with a variety of teaching methods and knowledge of ageappropriate cognitive and physical abilities.
  • Must have or gain knowledge of state and local curriculum.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills as well as the ability to communicate ideas contribute effectively and build authentic relationships.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills with exceptional attention to details.
  • Must have the ability to build and maintain relationships with partner organizations.
  • Must be proactive and motivated to develop new programming.
  • Must have the ability to deliver highquality customer service to internal and external audiences and respond to participant evaluations and feedback as necessary.
  • Must be dedicated to producing highquality experiences for a diverse audience.
  • Must have the ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to organize and effectively accomplish responsibilities and tasks.
  • Must be proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Research skills are required.
  • Ability to lift equipment (up to 50 lbs. without assistance.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be comfortable working outdoors in all elements.
  • May be subject to exposure to excessive noise extremes in temperature humidity or wetness dust.
  • Must be able to stand and/or walk for more than 4 hours at a time.
  • Ability to lift equipment (up to 50 lbs. without assistance.

SafetySensitive:

  • This is a safetysensitive position. Applicants regardless of whether they are a medical licensee must receive a negative result on a 10panel preplacement drug screening to include THC prior to beginning work.
