Job Description

I. INTRODUCTION

Functions under the direct supervision of the Facility Director. The duties of this position require direct constant contact with individuals convicted of offenses against the criminal laws of the United States. Is subject to call in case of emergency and may be required to work weekends.

II. RESPONSIBILITIES AND MAJOR DUTIES

Has the duty of acting as the facility’s Employment Placement Specialist. Conducts individual counseling relative to the search for gainful employment job training academic and vocational training. Counsels residents on identifying realistic employment education and training alternatives. Serves as liaison between facility and area employers.

III. SPECIFIC DUTIES

Work with Director and Case Managers in the development of the residents Individual Program Plan; Job placement resources both in the RRC and in the community to include the Department of Labor’s OneStop System consistent with current labor market trends; Employment information assistance using computerbased technology and resources which include career assistance software and online resources (e.g. Internet America’s Career Info Net). Portfolio development resume writing proper dress and interview techniques training; Individual and group counseling case management and postrelease followup relative to employment within the community to include the area where the offender plans to live following release; Employment job fairs either onsite or in partnership with other organizations such as community colleges; Maximize job retention by matching an offenders skill levels to an actual job placement. Implements organizational plans and goals. Communicates to employers the advantages of employing current and former residents. Develops an understanding of the local job market. Develops knowledge of available education training and vocational rehabilitation resources. Perform on site visits to each resident and record appropriate employment data. Counsel residents on employment educational and training matters.

IV. DEMONSTRATED KNOWLEDGE. ABILITIES AND SKILLS

This position requires a welldeveloped understanding of correctional history law philosophy and practices and a contemporary criminology theory. Requires a demonstrated ability to function with minimal supervision. Requires an ability to assess and place residents with social dysfunctional tendencies into appropriate training and/or employment positions. Must be familiar with the City of Faith emergency plan and with the physical plans of the facility.

V. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

One year of work experience in guidance counseling or job placement. Work experience may be substituted with a specialized degree or certification in the field of guidance counseling or career development.
